Behind the wide front terrace, the layout of this ages-old, well-run Young's pub may be a little confusing at first, but the Leather Bottle is worthy of exploration.
Spaces include the Board Room, accessed from a short staircase either end behind the main bar; a more intimate room mainly given over to diners (fish 'n' chips, burgers); and a substantial beer garden, a boon in summer.
In colder months, the large old fire in the main bar comes into its own, as locals exchange chit-chat for old-school board games. The decoration isn't anything remarkable, but it's worth eyeing up the vintage memorabilia dotting the bare-brick walls, such as the photograph of the pub in its circa-1890 prime.

My partner and I have been going to the Leather Bottle regularly over the past 2 years and have always really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the incredible beer garden. However, on our last visit the experience was completely different as we found the food to be completely inedible. When we complained, the manager explained that they have very recently changed suppliers; unfortunately the quality of the ingredients has suffered as a result. They have replaced high quality items with substandard substitutes and the chef should be ashamed of himself for allowing this food to be served to his customers.
Great, atmospheric Youngs Pub in my old stomping ground. Stay away from the food, it's just the usual "microwave reheat" specials........... and it's always inexplicably packed on a sunday dinner time....... but oh! the beer is good............ and the garden is lovely in the sunshine............. and it has happy memories for me............. Have a beer and enjoy!
