The Connaught's other bar is both cosy and elegant, with unobtrusive lighting, pastel walls and a conspiratorial duskiness that settles through the rooms as the evening goes on.
After a liquid amuse-bouche, a dainty flute of pineapple juice with mint and berry-infused gin, the drinks have a lot to live up to, but they should meet most expectations. The house martini is worth ordering simply for the tableside theatre: a waiter will pour gin and vermouth from a crystal tumbler into a frozen glass in front of you, then invite you to select a dash of infused bitters from an apothecary-style array.
Service is always charming, and the complimentary nibbles are exemplary.
