Luna Cinema is back for another banging summer season of alfresco flicks at loads of cool locations including Kew Gardens, Ascot Racecourse and Greenwich Park. Their ever-popular aquatic screening of 'Jaws' at Brockwell Lido has already sold out but you can still get your hands on tickets for a poolside screening of Crocodile Dundee, if that floats your boat. Now in its seventh year, the Waterloo Food Festival is returning for another month of the best food that SE1 has to offer. Local restaurants, bars and shops will be hosting events, tastings and demonstrations, including a gin masterclass, an outdoor food quiz and a night of knitting and cocktails – because why not? Butcher & Barber pop-up dinner
The folks at Ruffians Barbers are putting down their razors for the night and turning the barber shop into an American-themed supper club. Don't worry, they haven't just let their barbers loose in the kitchen, they've teamed up with Scottish game specialists Wild Game Co to put a Highlands spin on some American classics including corn dogs, venison sliders, hot dogs and haggis pops. £35. Bacon-lovers, get ready to go to piggy food heaven. Oink is a new foodie pop-up with a completely pork-themed menu. Expect pork in all its forms including ribs, pulled pork, crackling and even a bacon salt-infused bloody mary. Yep, even the drinks have a porky twist. Tickets are £25, which gets you a three-course meal and a cocktail. Opens July 3. Friday–Saturday. Crisis Café, 66 Commercial Street, E1 6LT.
H&M Divided pop-up shop
Give Oxford Street a wide birth and head to H&M's new pop-up shop at the Old Truman Brewery. For six weeks, they'll be taking up residency in the east London brewery, where they'll be showcasing the women's Divided collection. Once you've exhausted your bank balance, you can listen to live DJ sets, stay late for a lock-in, or get creative in one of their workshops where you can design your own jewellery and take advantage of complimentary manicures. How do you improve on a classic like 'Pulp Fiction'? Add themed food and drink, obviously. Feed Me Films has teamed up with carnivore connoisseurs MEATliquor to host two pop-up screenings of the classic Tarantino flick. They’ll be serving up ‘royale with cheese’ burgers because, as everyone knows, burgers are the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast (or in this case, dinner). You also get a beer, three cocktails and seven small dishes, including $5 shakes with bourbon, because everything is better with booze. Shortwave Cinema, 10 Bermondsey Square, SE1 3UN. July 24-25
Sweden brings more to the table than just meatballs and, well, the table. They also go crazy for a crayfish party, or kräftskiva, as the Swedes call them. Scandi-inspired Fika bar and Kitchen is turning its roof terrace and ground floor into one big crayfish festival this summer, where you can expect copious amounts of shellfish, as well as other Swedish fare including herring, gravadlax and chicken liver pâté. Who says summer school is just for unruly youths who’ve failed their exams? If you fancy adding a few more strings to your bow, head to one of Eventbrite’s Summer School sessions, which are encouraging Londoners to get some early morning learning in before work. They’re holding classes on everything from playing the ukulele to distilling your own vodka and gin – although you might want to refrain from knocking back any homemade hooch since all the classes are pre-9am. If you fancy getting away from the noise of the city without actually leaving it, you can now spend an evening in the (kind of) countryside at Spitalfields City Farm, where Funthyme is hosting an alfresco supper club. They'll be serving up a three-course meal with plenty of locally sourced ingredients from the farm and it's BYOB so you won't even have to tackle the wine menu. July 9–August 14, 7pm. £35. Anyone for a fish and chip cocktail? No, we're not entirely convinced either. But if you fancy giving it a go, Jacob's are opening a pop-up 'Snacktail' bar where they'll be shaking and stirring all kinds of savoury concoctions. Flavours include chilli con carne, plum spring rolls and fish and chips – and the whole shebang is completely free. July 9–10. 19 Greek Street, Soho, W1D 4DT
