Earlier this year, The Spitalfields Trust launched a campaign to save Norton Folgate from being demolished by developer giants British Land. The plans involve taking a wrecking ball to 70 percent of the buildings, which all sit within a conservation site. What do the developers have planned to replace the buildings? A 13-storey high office building – because London obviously doesn't have enough of those. And it's not the first time the historic site has been under threat. Back in 1977, The Spitalfields Trust was formed and successfully put a stop to the redevelopment of Elder Street in Spitalfields. Decades later, the trust is still fighting the good fight and they're planning a protest this Sunday (July 19) at 3pm, where protesters will hold hands to form a human chain around the Norton Folgate buildings.
