  • As entertaining as it's intelligent, this delightful 'Scope animation from Warner Bros is adapted from Ted Hughes' anti-Cold War children's book. In a small town in Maine in 1957 (year of the Sputnik launch), young adventurer Hogarth, son of singl...

If you grew up in the ’80s you’ll remember reruns of ‘Dad’s Army’ during that soul-sapping stretch of Sunday evening telly somewhere between ‘Songs of Praise’ and ‘Last of the Summer Wine’. Now – why oh why? – someone has decided that what we real...

Remaking Kathryn Bigelow’s brotastic 1991 surf-cop thriller was always going to be a tough proposition. Still, Ericson Core’s ultra-boring new version colossally misses the mark. (Technically, it misses it by several Swayzes.) Keanu Reeves’s origi...

Not only expert homage for the fans but a first-rate, energised piece of mega-Hollywood adventure, the hugely anticipated 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' stirs more to life than just The Force. The rollicking, space-opera spirit of George Lucas’s o...

In his seventy-third year, Robert De Niro is clearly relishing the fact that he’s got nothing left to prove. Why else put himself through shameless trash like this? He plays Dick, a just-widowed, super-horny pensioner with Special Forces training ...

‘Zoolander’ fans can breathe a flamboyant sigh of relief: 15 years on, this sequel to the fashion-world satire is as funny, silly and lovingly teasing as anyone could have hoped. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson return as dopey male models Derek Zoolan...

‘You are relentlessly annoying,’ barks arms dealer Ed Skrein to Ryan Reynolds’s wisecracking, fetish-clad anti-superhero midway through this latest romp inspired by a Marvel comic. It’s an insult that applies just as easily to the film itself. Blo...

Taking the ‘Cabin in the Woods’ approach of chucking in all the monsters and seeing what sticks, this kid-friendly spooker based on the crazy-huge-selling stories by RL Stine is more goofy fun than such a blatant cash-in ought to be. It all begins...

The average lifespan of a chipmunk is five years – which means the kids’ cartoon franchise about the trio of singing superstar rodents has already outstayed its welcome. To be honest, if you have kids under eight, there are worse ways to spend a c...

Literary mash-up ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ was 2009’s must-have stocking filler, the kind of last-minute impulse buy that bookshops stuck next to their tills like Snickers in a supermarket. The questions facing this handsome, decently budg...

I love The Reel Borehamwood. It's an independent cinema with four screens, two with 3D. It shows a good selection of films and inside the foyer makes you think of the sixties. I live in Borehamwood so can walk to the cinema in five minutes. Love it love it. Oh and they have reduced prices on Tuesday and Wednesdays. I think we should all support this lovely cinema.
