There are always strong line-ups at this long running club, which has been going for over three decades. Seated almost in the round, Banana Cabaret's room is perfect for comedy: cosy and unpretentious. See the Banana Cabaret website for the latest line-ups.

I caught the Banana Cabaret comedy gig on Saturday 5/4/14. The female stand-up was solid, but 2 out of 3 of the male comics flew perilously close to pre-1979 comedy attitudes, complete with borderline "cheerful" racism, stereotyping, and pretty crude sexism disguised as mere comedy "exasperation". Baloney. It was pretty obvious that those geezers would have upped the ante if they could've got away with it. The 3rd guy, the headliner, was a decent enough pro but did a stream of knob gags for the most part. That's Ok if you're in the mood, I guess. Tiresome otherwise.
This was my second visit to the Bedford's comedy venue. The earlier gig, a few of years back, was a MUCH better experience - sharper, more inventive comedy. To be fair, I think this return to, shall we say, "traditional" heartless stand-up has become fairly widespread lately. That ain't such good news.
On the upside, The Bedford is a great venue, with excellent bar service and tasty, if slightly pricey, nosh.
