Royal Ballet: Ashton Mixed Programme

A genuinely mixed bill of extracts from works by Frederick Ashton, marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the death of the Royal Ballet's founder choreographer. The five pieces here range from the Viennese waltzing, nineteenth-century throwback 'La Valse' to the space-age abstraction of 'Monotones I and II'. Other pieces on the bill include the delicately romantic 'Médiation from Thaïs' and the more full-throttle passion of 'Marguerite and Armand', based on the story of Alexandre Dumas's 'La Dame aux Camélias'. A good opportunity to see a range of work from a choreographer who defined the English style.
