Best for: couples who want to splash out
If you’re craving pure escapism and can’t afford a plane ticket, Ushvani in Chelsea is the next best thing. Tucked just off Sloane Square and hidden discreetly behind a heavy wooden door, stepping inside Ashvanti day spa feels like being transported to an idyllic Malaysian oasis far from the maddening crowds. Intricate teak carvings line the walls, there is an abundance of decadent cream marble and everything smells and feels exotic. Once inside, your shoes are quickly removed, your bags whisked off and you’re given a scented hot towel before you’ve even had a chance to turn your phone to silent. Time slows down, tones are hushed and you have no choice but to chill the hell out.
Similar to the décor, Ushvani’s massages, scrubs and wraps take strong influence from Asian culture. The Warming Herbal Ritual is a winter highlight, combing Thai and Shiatsu massage and reflexology. You’ll be pushed, pummeled, rubbed, stroked and, at times, stretched into yoga-esque poses, but after 90 minutes you’ll feel like you’re levitating.
Guys in for solo treatments have a private room upstairs (slightly larger than the women’s), but they don’t have access to the downstairs ladies-only hydrotherapy spa pool, steam room and chilling zone. Sorry chaps. Meanwhile, women can lounge, dunk and sweat themselves to nirvana before and after their treatments.
However, the ultimate luxury at Ushavni is the Amsara suite, where two people (be it your significant other, mother or just a lucky pal) have their own private room, complete with two massage tables, a massive bath, shower and day bed, for three hours of extreme pampering. This level of luxury doesn’t come cheap though, costing £620 for a 180 minutes of bliss. Maybe a holiday isn’t looking so pricey after all. Yes, this is a seriously high end spa, but if you can relax about the amount of money you’ll be spending, you’ll feel decadently blissed out.
