Partly due to the young manager’s enthusiasm, it’s hard not to like this place. It’s a retro-futurist dream: metal floors and panelling, lots of royal blue (the hall walls, the padded headboards) and pod bathrooms. But the real deal at Stylotel is its bargain studio and apartment (respectively, £120-£150 and £150-£200, breakfast £6 extra), around the corner above a pub.
Designed – like the rest of the hotel – by the owner’s son, they suggest he’s calmed down with age. Here’s real minimalist chic: sleek brushed steel or white glass wall panels, simply styled contemporary furniture upholstered in black or white.
