Cecil Beaton, Queen Elizabeth II in Coronation Robes, June 1953 - © V&A images
The Queen was a teenage princess when she first sat for the photographer Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) and his portraits over the following decades show her changing role as a mother and monarch. To mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, around 100 of these images are on display, alongside Beaton's diary entries and letters, press cuttings and film and radio footage. Featuring formal shots of significant occasions as well as more casual photos featuring the Queen with her children, the show examines the relationship between the pair. It also looks at the extent to which Beaton controlled the use of his photographs and how they were selected by the Palace.
