Critics' choice
The Tate Gallery by tube, by David Booth of the agency Fine White Line, 1987
London Transport Museum's collection of maps from the past 100 years forms the basis of this exhibition, which uses maps and cartography to explore themes of journeys, identity and publicity. Historical material and contemporary art works by the likes of Simon Patterson, Stephen Walter and Susan Stockwell are included in displays that explore geographical, diagrammatic, decorative and digital maps, as well as the enduring influence of the iconic London tube map on cartography, art and the public imagination. How we use maps to navigate and engage with our surroundings is the theme of a series of accompanying events.
