Since The O2 opened in 2007, transforming the endlessly floundering Millennium Dome in Greenwich into a multi-entertainment centre, it's relied on the pulling power of one giant superstar after the next. Barbara Streisand, Prince, Tina Turner and Bon Jovi have all pitched up to wring whopping sums of money out of their equally ageing fans, while guaranteed crowd-pullers such as Kings Of Leon and Kanye West are enlisted to pack the house with those too late on the bandwagon to have caught them in the far more appealing Brixton Academy. Still, The O2's sprawling 20,000 seat arena isn't the only thing to recommend it. The smaller, less attention-grabbing Indigo2 is a good place to catch soulful crooners such as Estelle and Akon, while the centre also houses an 11-screen Vue cinema, the British Music Experience and space for temporary exhibitions such as Dr Gunther von Hagens's 'Body Worlds'.

As the North Greenwich Arena, it will play a major role in London 2012 hosting Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball. A cable car – a section of which will link The O2 with ExCeL – is on target for a summer 2012 opening.

One of the top venues for entertainment (especially concerts) if not the top venue. Due to the huge capacity, it frequently attracts the top acts. Went for U2 and Imagine Dragons recently and both were out of this world. The large sets that move and the amount of smoke and mirrors allows the performers to really thrive in their re-created elements. A concert anywhere else would not have the same effects. Plenty of toilets and bars as well. The only pain is the way out when there is a mad rush for the tube. But the experienced staff and crowd control on hand allows for a smooth and less painful exit.

Excellent all round entertainment venue. Seems to have a wide range of performers in attendance at all times. Have seen a fair few of bands/musicians in the arena, including the Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Take That, Justin Timberlake and Vampire Weekend, as well as the 2012 Gymnastics, Strictly Come Dancing Tour and Walking with Dinosaurs. All events have been fantastic. We also recently took our daughter to In the Night Garden Live at the pop up arena which was absolutely fantastic. Top it off with some fabulous range of restaurants and bars and you have a top class 5 star venue!

The Man on the Street

Its big, miles away in North Greenwich, represents the totally commercial side of live music, feels like America and is packed with chain restaurants. I should hate it, but I don't. As an arena for staging bigger gigs it delivers. I have spent so many great nights here. The best so far have been Springsteen's Christmas gig, Pink Floyd almost reuniting at The Wall and the Led Zeppelin reunion which ranks amongst my top 5 ever. Just last week I attended Fleetwood Mac who are now ancient but still have it. Triumphant after headlining The Isle of White they put on a  very good show. I still prefer smaller venues that don't smell as good as The O2 but when the big boys are in town its well worth a visit.

No complains for anything..its a great place to hang out with friends but the security sucks big time...they don't know what they are doing!! Friendly??!! Are u kidding me...they are not even F of friendly....they are just rude and lazy ...

This site is amazingly well put together and I enjoy navagating my way through it. Very informative and up to date. One area of inprovement would be a calender in bold and bright colours to attract ons attention and that makes it easier to find out whats happening tonight or tomorrow in such a way that makes the user more inclined to find and pland thier outing with just a click.
