Established by Heavenly Records at the end of the '90s, this funky bar and nightlife hub offers central London fun six days a week. After drinks or some square pies and mash upstairs, The Social's in-the-know visitors repair downstairs to a basement club space that hosts some of the most-established parties in the city – carnival-party The Heatwave on Wednesday, Hip Hop Karaoke on Thursday, and now a revival of their seminal Heavenly Social club night on Fridays.

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. The tapas is tasty- and cheap. It would be easy to stuff yourself and still have change from £20. The service is fantastic and so friendly. My favourite part is the table on each side of the entrance that have their own set of stairs up- so you have your own private balcony!

Great place to go when the end of the night is nearing and you want a few cocktails with friends before heading home.  It is small, they do cram people in but grab a seat at the bar and you will find great cocktails, fantastic service and a fun atmosphere!  Love it!

I've only ever come to The Social for their legendary Thursday night hip-hop karaoke and always felt the venue really suited that vibe - eclectic, boisterous and a little rough around the edges.  They pack people in too, and that gets uncomfortable after a while, but I noticed they've sorted out the air-con so at least you won't hyperventilate.

Kind of loathed to review this place, as I don't want the sort-of secret to get out and then to suddenly find it crowded. Okay, it's not really a secret – it's been around for years and has a loyal audience – but bars around central London that aren't expensive, incredibly loud gastropubs are few and far between. This is one such place. It's intimate, arty, relaxed and situated just far enough off Oxford Street to be 'out of the way', in as much as that's possible with a W1 postcode. The staff have been friendly every time I visited, there's a great - but not overbearing – selection of beers and ales, and everything's sensibly priced. They also do great drinks deals for members – and membership is free. There are also some great nights on in The Social's basement, including Hip Hop Karaoke and club night The Deep Hum at the Heart of it All, which offers a mix of buzzy live bands and DJs. Go here! Just don't tell anyone, else, OKAY?
