Public Enemy

Robert Downes
Public Enemy

Chuck D, Flavor Flav and co are back in the UK, for more revolutionary rhetoric and raucous, rabble-rousing rap. Their musical legacy can hardly be overstated: not only have they been a key influence on both mainstream and leftfield hip hop, but also on rock acts from Nirvana to Manic Street Preachers. True, their vitality has lessened as the years roll by: they've been in the game for over three decades, and it doesn't quite take a nation of millions to hold them back nowadays – but they're still able to thrill on stage.
