If like me the thought of going out for a night in central fills you with a nauseating feeling of impending dread, fear not The Phoenix is not that bad.  Yes it's just off Oxford Street and busy, sweaty, and overpriced.  However The Phoenix redeems itself with a selection of club nights in the basement bar.  We went to the David Bowie Feeling Gloomy night and while it was full of drunk 20 year olds snogging on the dance floor, it had that comforting familarity, like meeting an old friend in your University town Wetherspoons.  A worthwhile night for when you're in need of a good ol' sweaty dance at an indie disco.

Finding a good pub near Oxford Street is harder than it seems. Luckily, there's the Phoenix. Tucked behind the back of John Lewis, it's always got happy folk having an after work drink and a good atmosphere.

As you can expect, it's pricey for what it is. Sure, it's a nice place, but the girls loos are shoddy and the drinks aren't the most diverse. But it's a reliable place to take friends or dates and it's never done me wrong.

If it seems a little busy, stick with it. The crowd at the Phoenix are a "quick pint" kind of crew. A table will open up soon enough.

Nice pub around the back of Oxford Street, particularly good for a post-shopping cool down; Eg. "I can't believe I tried on a little under 40 pairs of Chelsea boots today, and I still think I should've bought the first pair" type thing...

The craft cocktails are great, a fiver if you get them between 4 and 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 'Dusk' is really good - Vodka, jasmine tea and white peach = yummy!

Amazing quiz nights, even have their own resident rapper to sing out mystery pop star biographies. Good night all in all.
