Another entry in the Geronimo chain (note the bright, stand-up letters near the entrance), this makeover gastropub exudes an urban feel. It also caters to diners and drinkers with equal care.
A long, shiny bar counter features varied UK and international brews, a Geronimo trademark; you might find Waggle Dance, Doom Bar and Adnams, along with Aspall Suffolk Cyder. Geronimo’s wine man, John Clevely, produces a new list every month, divided into such categories as ‘Warm-Hearted Reds’ and ‘Chardonnay Lovers & Friends’; nearly all selections come by the bottle and two sizes of glass.
Food is a serious matter – ‘Please wait to be seated,’ says the sign – but those who just want a bite with their beer can plump for bar grub. Michael Caine and Twiggy are decoratively namechecked, while a ‘Garden of Eden’ (what else?) offers fresh air.
