Baharat restaurant, located in South Woodford, prides itself on being one of the first restaurants to bring Indo-Mediterranean cuisine to London. The name, Baharat, is the Arabic name for a spice mix used throughout the Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa; the cuisine draws mainly on Indian and also Moroccan and Turkish influences, and the menu is split into two sections accordingly. Baharat's menu caters for every taste – the first section is full of popular Indian favourites, including puri, masala and jalfrezi dishes, and the second half features mezze, kebabs and tagines. As well as the emphasis on flavour, the team at Baharat pride themselves on using fresh, locally sourced produc. The décor of the restaurant, too, is a blend of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean themes; earthy colours and antique-look mirrors and light fittings give the place an exotic feel. This, combined with warm and friendly service makes for a relaxing dining experience.

I went here on a Monday evening for my son's birthday. I was expecting the food to be only average because it was empty and the menu is long. We had to wait a bit for food to appear, but it was well worth it. We had a variety of dishes both Indian and Mediterranean; meat fish and vegetarian. They were all lovely; nothing over or undercooked and well seasoned. The accompaniments were also nice too. Finally the bill was very reasonable.

After the restaurant changed hands recently, we've been visiting the restaurant for a meal more oftenly, and everytime we visited, the food and service is always top-knotched! We value this little gem in South Woodford very much, as we can dare say they do the best curry, Mediterranean and Persian food in East London, if not in the whole London! Service has always been lovely, and they are very friendly and kind people, and they deserve an all stars recommendations. Last but not least, food is always perfectly cook, not like some restaurants dishes being too oily, or getting weird feelings in your stomach after dining. You can taste all food and sauce is freshly cook, so that's why it's so tasty! On top of that, all dishes are at great value, and decor is soothing, perfect environment for couples and small families enjoy a great meal and a great time. We'll recommend Baharat to anybody.
