I was at Goldsmiths for five years and spent plenty of time in this
excellent vegetarian cafe, which serves cheap and tasty meals, fantastic
coffee and a nice variety of cakes. They grow their own fruit and veg
out the back in a really lovely garden – an oasis off the New Cross Road
– and even have ducks nesting in a small pond. They play excellent,
cool vintage music during the day, hold regular acoustic music nights
and film screenings at night and actively support local businesses and
ethical trading (you can buy Palestinian honey at the counter).
As regards the other reviewer, anyone who's been in there would understand that there's not much floor space, so to stand inside reading the billboards would mean you towering obnoxiously over someone's meal and blocking the view for half the customers. Not only did 'Wil G' miss the point of his encounter, but how can anyone give one star to somewhere without even trying its food or drink?
This cafe is in a highly trafficked University area right next to Goldsmiths college. The windows are covered with fliers and posters for local shows and events. I was walking by this establishment on my way back to the university after lunch and the posters in the windows caught my eye so I went in side to see what else was hung on their bulletin board. As I was standing in front of the bulletin board I was told very nastily how rude it was to read the bulletin board since I had not bought anything and that the bulletin board was for "customers" only. As far as I understood it the café is as much about community as coffee. The community at Cafe Crema leaves much to be desired! Your money is better spent on instant coffee!!!!!!! There is a much better coffee shop in the Goldsmiths Student Union building called, Natura Cafe.
