Food and art are a natural match. It’s all a question of taste, isn’t it? At Canvas & Cream, the owners have embraced all things creative: in addition to a gallery and dining room, there’s a studio space for artists, a therapy room for alternative practitioners and a rolling programme of craftsy workshops.
The Dining Room kitchen turns out a fairly standard brunch menu at weekends with a Modern European/North African emphasis taking hold at lunch and dinner. There is also a Sunday roast at £15.
This is a particularly attractive place. Vintage lighting, farmhouse tables and a open shelves of crockery give the place a homely, been-here-forever feel. Factor in funky art, mouth-watering displays of baked goods both sweet and savoury on the counter, and all those activities going on, and you’ll find plenty of reasons to visit.
They pride themselves on offering friendly, relaxed service, welcoming all - including dogs! There are cosy couch nooks ideal for families with an outdoor seating area to enjoy in summer months with free wi-fi.
Whilst you dine you can feast your eyes on up-cycled handmade décor, vintage tea sets and C&C Gallery’s own art collection. Beyond the restaurant is C&C Gallery showing contemporary artwork and an art bookshop. Behind the scenes eight studios offer artists the opportunity to create.
They cater for pretty much any private function whether this is a wedding reception, birthday party, afternoon tea or just to let people know you love them. They pride themselves in creating bespoke parties from a sit down meal, to cocktail canapés or buffet and disco with live music and delicious cakes. They can even arrange art workshops such as a Crafternoon Tea with scones, cake, prosecco and your own artist to run your session.
Their philosophy is to be inclusive, and encourage creativity and expression through art, food and living well. A local hub ready to welcome you in the heart of Forest Hill.
