Blackstock Road, the stretch between Finsbury Park and Highbury, is best-known for its Middle Eastern grocery stores and cafés. Now, an Italian ice cream parlour is throwing some gelato into the mix. Cremeria Vienna, which already has a previous branch in High Barnet, is making a mark with its daily-changing selection of ice creams and sorbets.
The classic Italian gelatos, including nocciola (hazelnut) and fragola (strawberry), are freshly made every morning and sold (or discarded) within 24 hours. Creamy Madeira ice cream is dotted with raisins soaked in vin santo, while ground almonds enhance the smooth, pale green pistachio gelato (made with Sicilian pistachios). The generous portions start at £2 for two scoops. It’s mostly take-away business, but there are two small tables for those who want a caffè with their gelato.
