With its faded awning and ramshackle roadside terrace seating, you might not give Donna Margherita a second glance. It’s an unprepossessing location, despite the proximity of Battersea Arts Centre. Then again, you might note that the place is remarkably buzzy; on a sunny day the terrace is often packed. Wander in, order the eponymous pizza, and all will be clear.
Gabriele Vitale and his brothers take great Neapolitan pride in the warmth of their native land’s cuisine, importing essential ingredients from Naples and crafting wood-fired oven pizzas (and cones, and calzones) to rival any in London, with terrific, chewy but bubbly and charred-edge sourdough crusts. There’s also a wide-ranging restaurant menu, with dishes served in generous measure; we had trouble doing justice to a terracotta potful of ‘O’gnocc o furn’ with its tomato-doused dumplings coated in a blanket of smoked provola cheese and buffalo mozzarella. Pink-roast pork loin with fat ceps (bottled, but flavourful) was deftly executed. Menabrea beer and simple but sound wine by the glass provided apt accompaniment.
Ices and sorbets are the safest dessert options, though excellent oak-aged grappa may prove an irresistible conclusion. Animated Italian families, locals and young professionals clearly appreciate the authentic food, warmth and internal decor; with your back to the road you might be in a backstreet trattoria in Naples.
Situated on Lavender Hill, near Clapham Junction, it has not been easy, but with perseverance, passion and belief we established ourselves within the local community and received a great response from the press - as you can see on our website.
During the past year, with the help of some of the best Italian wine producers, we also extended our wine list up to 100 carefully selected wines, so you can enjoy top level wines at reasonable prices.
We are also sourcing more and more organic products which are also, like our wines, available to take away. We offer a gluten-free option on our pasta dishes and are working on a gluten-free pizza.
Being a traditional Italian restaurant we value family and the importance of Sunday lunch. In a bid to recreate a traditional Neapolitan lunch we started 'la dominica Italiana', a nice way to spend Sunday afternoon sharing antipastos, pasta dishes and sweet Neapolitan treats, as well as playing tombola (the Neapolitan equivalent of bingo) in a relaxed atmosphere. Check our website for the next event.

Hi... well Donna Margherita is definitely my favorite place in whole London. This is were I go when I feel Life ows me a treat. Whenever I go there I feel at home, no matter if alone, with my wife or with a company of frien ds. Gabriele runs this place with his brothers and is a great guy. They have most ingredients flying in twice a week via gatwick and you can tell their pizza's, the first dishes, desserts or dirnks are incredibly authentic and good. Try the friarelli pizza or any first dish... meat is also very good (I believe scottish)... Give it a try and you'll become a true fan of this place depite it's outside looks... Ah... I never had problems parking nor a ticket and this is a real peace of mind for londoners!!!
Oh my gosh have you tried the Frutti Mare Pizza-well its a flat bread with garlic, olive oil, herbs and mussels, clams, giant prawns and extremley delicious and huge-only £12.50. I get mine via home delivery, its a bit of a struggle ordering over the phone as you have to repeat yourself about 20 times as the mans grasp of engliah isnt great but hey its authentic. Im not a fan of Italian food-i hate it but the very fact im in love with this place proves how good they are.
We had a fantastic evening here. The owner is incredibly enthusiastic and took the time to introduce us to his good wines and practically every dish as they came out of the kitchen. The place feels like a traditional, family run restaurant straight out of Italy and is well worth a visit.
is my only Italian restaurant that i can go to eat in London for a decent price and no disappointment well dawn
Great pizzas and lovely music in the evening despite the bland atmosphere. Certainly recommend it for eat in or take away, especially on week days. Have given 5 stars for the taste and the lovely staff.
These guys are rocking! The food is absolutely magnificent. I and my husband were delighted by the quality of the food, everyone should try their seafood mix grill, it's sumptuous. The service is professional and it has at the same time that extra italian spice. I'll definately go back for more meals.
Went for Valentines day. The menu on the website advertised 2 courses for £20, which turned out to be 2 for £25 when we got there. Only 2 pizzas on the set menu. My fiance had some sort of fried then baked pizza, which was bland to say the least. I had the lamb, which was miniscule, though very tender, but unfortunately also bland. For dessert I had a pancake with Nutella, which I could have done a better job on. The waiters/waitresses were literally sprinting around, which made for a very unpleasant Valentines experience. I'm sure the pizzas are great, but we didn't have the opportunity to experience them. I won't be going back.
Am not normally moved to comment but this afternoon was something else. Not off to a promising start, it took 15 minutes to get a drink. My chicken, parma ham and smoked mozzarella turned up minus the ham. And the mozzarella. The wrong pizza turned up for my friend. Whilst they were apologetic and the pizzas were tasty as always, can't help but feel that standards have slopped here of late. Time to raise the stakes
was here last night. busy, good atmosphere, nice lay out, italian staff. Delighted with food: pasta dish, sweet potatoes, half a bottle of wine and a bailey's expression. all for £25. Not bad price is it? very very happy with this place.
