Please note, this branch of Gelato Mio is now closed. Time Out Food & Drink editors, Feb 2016.
Despite having spawned a handful of younger, shinier offshoots across London, this original branch remains popular as ever, with queues often stretching down Holland Park Avenue.
Cheery staff in bright orange T-shirts dish up generous portions of gelato in a score of traditional flavours (think pistachio made from nuts dried in the Sicilian sunshine), along with sorbets, sundaes and shakes.
On our visit, we sampled a terrific amareno (delicately creamy fior di latte with chunks of marinated dark cherries); classic stracciatella (the same subtle base, but this time swirled with shards of chocolate), and an intensely dark and cocoa-spiked cioccolato.

i have visited Gelato Mio several times and they sell the best ice-cream i have ever tasted! i would recommend this to anyone! even though quite pricey, it is a price worth paying!!! the staff are very friendly and in general i would give this shop a 5 star rating!
Have visited this place several times...often with family or friends. On yesterday's visit I noted that the portion sizes had definitely decreased since last time and they have stopped serving whipped cream (as an additional topping). Also - two of the 4 tables were occupied by individuals who were neither eating or drinking...but clearly bedded down for the afternoon with their laptops and book. Why does the cafe allow this? It's bad business sense. Customers who had just bought icecreams and who wanted somewhere to sit down and enjoy felt that they had to go elsewhere... The staff should handle these situations better...and not allow people to hog tables indefinately. Icecream is good...but very pricey (given the decreasing portions) and the very limited seating availability.
