Hampstead shoppers drop into this bright corner for light meals, hearty gastropub fare and more sophisticated choices (crisp-skinned pollock with samphire and nuggets of crayfish, for example), plus special deals such as Red Poll beef burger with chips and a glass of house wine or OJ (£7). Vegetarians might opt for broccoli and pine nut wellington.
It’s worth forgoing the (not bad) wine list to explore the beers as the pub brews its own ales, and there’s a great choice of bottled options, including Coopers and Little Creatures from Australia, and Belgian raspberry beer Bacchus.
Service can be too laid-back, not least because staff seem to enjoy each other’s company, but if you’re happy to chill, the Horseshoe makes a relaxing afternoon destination.
