  • I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and wasn't disappointed with our duck pancakes to start. However our main courses arrived and they looked to have been made with MSG (thick gravy sauce for a supposed fresh beef stir fry!). It was not stated on the menu that any items contained MSG. Being allergic to MSG (it makes the heart beat faster than normal) I asked the question whether the main courses contained MSG but the waiting staff didn't know what it was. After a few minutes they returned after speaking with the chef I presume and I was told it did have MSG in it and they asked if I was allergic. I said I was to which point the waitress was very rude and stated I should have told them when I placed the order. I was a little annoyed at the response from the staff. If the food was prepared fresh there would be to need to add MSG. When the staff then queried why we wasn't going to pay the optional 12.5% service charge, I was made to write an explanation on the back of the bill for the manager! No apologies given at any point. Very disappointing!

  • ‘The otherwise average food’ ?! You must be joking! I ate braised pork with a chilli and lime dressing that made me make so many strange noises my friends didn’t know whether to applaud or call a doctor. Great prices, great staff, going back!

  • Went there last night, we were greeted nicely. I had a lovely raspberry Bellini. Food was delicious! Had the prawn and coconut dumpling and crispy duck in leaf. Massuman curry was lovely. Presentation was beautiful. Will def be going back.

  • I've been here 3 times now (oct-dec2011) - I'm not someone who writes reviews but this restaurant is really fab and it deserves as many stars as can be thrown at it! the food is amazing, the service is great and the prices comparable to less desirable alternatives. I don't understand why it isn't booked out all the time!

  • My girlfriend and I came here on sunday evening on the offchance that it might be good. We were blown away. The service was impeccable, the food outrageously good, and the overall atmosphere very pleasant. And it was well priced. It was so good that we came again on thursday of the same week. However, once we arrived we worried that it might not live up to its previous standard, since the restaurant was almost totally full! However, the food was even better than previously, and the service held up admirably considering the numbers. Genuinely one of the best places I have found for a long time.

  • As far as Thai restaurants in London go (from a snobby ex-Sydneysider), Isarn is a good'un. The review is right, the decor suggests posh dining but the prices are pretty much the same as you'd get in any less pretty Thai restaurant. The menu, particularly for vegetarians, is very friendly and a inventive by other Thai restaurant standards. We love the tofu steak dishes and back in fish-eating days the prawn and coconut dumplings, a starter, are amazing.

  • Delicious food and excellent service. We had prawn dumplings to start which were incredibly light, followed by some fiery but very tender squid with some crisp vegetables and coconut sticky rice. The best Thai I've had in Islington. The service was very attentive even though the restaurant was packed. Would definitely recommend!

  • Isarn offers authentic Thai food in a comfortable modern setting. By authentic, I mean that they don't hold back on the spices, or make their curry's over creamy. The chicken with mango & chilli jam was a stand out for us. We loved the western puds, especially the excellent gooey centred raspberry and chocolate pudding. All the food we had was way above 'average'. Having visited countless Thai restaurants in London, I have to say that Isarn is now one of our favourites. The staff were very attentive with out being intrusive. Highly recommended!
