NOTE: Early in 2015 it was announced that Soho Estates and Soho House plan to redevelop Kettner's with a public restaurant, champagne bar and 28 new bedrooms. This review was written before those plans were announced.

A Georgian-chic champagne bar with a restaurant next door that’s buzzing every night of the week, Kettner’s is a safe bet in Soho. The cocktail bar has lavish velvet curtains, plush seating and low-lit alcoves filled with the tinkle of laughter and champagne flutes, while the restaurant suits groups who want a bit of glamour and history (Oscar Wilde dined here), but don’t necessarily crave too many surprises on the menu.

Large windows and distressed white woodwork create a relaxed and upmarket feel, but the tables are close together and soft electro music keeps a modern edge. You get what you expect from a quality brasserie: steak cooked perfectly, chips triple fried, service a little flirty, and there’s always crème brûlée on the menu. A buffalo mozzarella starter came with a dense confit of tomatoes and deliciously sharp basil dressing, and this lightness was carried through to the salmon and prawn fish cakes served with buttery poached egg for mains.

Potato gratin was a little dry, but you could forgive the kitchen once you tasted the rich and cheddary cauliflower cheese. Mango and passion-fruit pavlova was, much like the rest of the meal, very well executed if a little predictable.

Kettner's says
Kettner's is a landmark Soho restaurant renowned for its buzzing, convivial atmosphere. We serve outstanding modern food with a French twist in an informal brasserie setting.

Originally opened in 1867 by Auguste Kettner (chef to Napoleon III), the menu today is still inspired by his original French signature dishes which, combined with British classics and Soho comfort food, means there is truly something for all tastes and occasions.

Our head chef Marvin Jones joined us recently and brings our delicious new autumn brasserie menu. Marvin was previously head chef at Baku Bistro, Credit Suisse Roux Fine Dining and the Park Lane Hilton, and has worked alongside Gary Rhodes and at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons.

Perfect for all pockets and occasions, Kettner's offers everything from casual lunches to pre-theatre suppers, Sunday roasts and luxurious special occasion dinners... not to mention our infamous Champagne afternoon teas, served daily between 1pm and 4pm.

We also have one of the most extensive Champagne lists in London with more than 100 varieties, many from small family growers. The innovative cocktail menu is inspired by the characters of the restaurant's scandalous past, including the signature High and Wilde bellini, in honour of Oscar Wilde.

Plus live music, ticketed party events, jazz dinners and lots more to tickle your fancy!

So, whatever the occasion Kettner's is the place for you and all your guests. See you for a glass of bubbly soon...

I have been here a couple of times for dinner and most recently the after party of Derren Brown's new show. Can't fault the food or service and the place has a beautiful decor. The afternoon teas look rather fabulous too, though I haven't tried it myself yet. Also if you have a taste card they currently accepting these for 50% off your food bill!

Write a review...Wonderful little bar/restaurant in Soho. Recently went for an after work drink with a few colleagues and it was great - nice and relaxed but upmarket, not the usual after work drinks of standing outside a pub! When we turned up it just so happened to be happy hour - the Dark & Stormy cocktail was delightful.

Just in the heart of soho, this is an elegant little restaurant with an art deco décor and atmosphere to match. It all seems rather fancy, go for the champagne lobster lunch and you won’t be disappointed. Staff were great attentive and it was not too packed for a weekend lunch time. They also offer other alternative exciting events such as cabaret nights, burlesque afternoon teas and jazz nights.

I have never had a bad meal in this place or received bad service. The decor is beautiful and I love the white grand piano in the main dining area. The cocktails are great here as well. I have also used one of the private dining rooms for a birthday and it was wonderful, the room was beautiful and our waiter for the evening was impeccable. A great date place for dinner and drinks or for Sunday lunch.

This place is great for a treat with the girls or a lovely lunch when in town. I have had afternoon tea and lunch - both great value and quality. Kettners is timeless and I am sure I will find many more excuses to attend be it a quick lunch, a 40th or a lovelt treat.

I go just for the best creme brulee in town!  I've enjoyed it every time I've been.

This typically English establishment is where I had my first glass of champagne. One of my mother’s haunts in the 60s, she introduced me to the Champagne Bar, as some sort of teenager’s rights of passage and well I’ve never looked back. Unfortunately it might not have retained the glamorous charm I recall on that first visit, ahem, some 20 years ago, but it’s characteristic brasserie fare in the dinning room is perfect for a quick fly by bite or a long evening with friends.

Love this place! I could have happily eaten everything on the menu, and the location, decor and atmosphere were all fab. Food is affordable and really good value. A real London treasure and a must do for anyone who loves a bit of 20s glam!

Awful place. We hired a private dining room and received perhaps the worst service ever. The highlight was the serving of champagne: she poured too few glasses (easy done) but then proceeded to decant a bit from everyone's glass into mine! There was a number of similarly appalling episodes: which will form the memory of the evening after actually quite un-memorable food. I've been a number of times before, but never again.

Had a lovely afternoon tea last weekend. Service and food impeccable.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere!! Will definately be back, definately recommend!!

Had Sunday Lunch with my mother last weekend. She used to frequent Kettner's in the past, but has not been for about 10 years. We were both impressed with all aspects of the restaurant. We asked about the events rooms, just to be be nosey, and were given a tour of the private rooms upstairs, which also looked wonderful. Looks like we may be back, if not for sunday lunch, but for her next birthday in one of the private dining rooms.

A group of us went to Kettners yesterday for Sunday Lunch, and ate off the set menu, which one must say is fantastic value. The food was very good, as was the service. The brasserie had a great atmosphere helped by the fact it was almost full, perhaps a pianist may be good or some form of live entertainment. Will be back!!
