This Hong Kong-style café offers an extensive menu of Cantonese classics, such as baked salted chicken, stewed eel with black bean sauce, and stuffed beancurd with aubergine and green pepper. The roast meats (duck, pork, chicken) are popular too, and, unusually, there are also a few (hard-to-spot) Malaysian dishes. Our fried ho fun arrived with mixed seafood and pork (char kway teow, stir-fried flat noodles, in another guise), and packed real punch. The taste of garlic and belachan (hot shrimp paste) lingered on delightfully. Less thrilling was a dry, bland Hainanese chicken rice.
We were lucky to have grabbed the last table on the packed ground floor, which is smart in brown (walls and floor tiles are uniformly bronzed), with mirrors down one side to brighten up the place. The basement is a bit soulless. Staff are friendly, but of limited help if you need menu advice.

Excellent meal at a reasonable price staff helpful and efficient will most certainly be back again on our next trip to the capital
I have been to ti restaurant 6 times now returning each time im Chian town, wih various friends all really enjoying it. The best chinese I have had in the UK, the salt and pepper squid is 'to die for'. Staff can be quite quiet but not an issue always a wait but worh it.
ENGLISH Just good, no more. Be VERY CAREFUL with the bill (hand-written, and you can't really read it) they charge more than you have to pay. They tried to make me pay £88 when I ordered for £73 !!! I ask them to look at the bill, they "double checked" saying me there was no problem with it... So do not hesitate to ask for the menu and do the bill with them or they will steal your money !! For what you eat... Better to go somewhere else !
Service charge was added though not marked and a tip also asked for the card payment, and charge was made for cokes at £3.50 instead of the £2.50 on the menu. It's a complete rip-off. I wish I had read the user reviews instead of just the Time Out 4 star review on my iphone.
I have never tasted Oriental cuisine anywhere near as good as this. On my first visit I had Malaysian Curry Chicken with Mixed Vegetable Fried Rice and Lemon Garlic Chicken Wings for desert i had Banana Fritters. On my second vist I asked the manager to order for me. She Ordered me a beef dish (i don't really know which one it was) with crispy squid and Special Fried Rice. My third visit i had a boneless Lemon Chicken, Crispy Duck Pankcake and Mixed Vegetable Fried Rice. From the presentation to the aroma to the taste everything about my experience at New Fook Lam Moon was awesome. The customer service was excellent really friendly waiters. Great value for money and i would definitely recommend it. 5*
New Fook Lam Moon restuarant is worth a visit. The quality and the services are exceptional. Although I rated this restuarant as 4 stars, it could be improved by making the food more outstanding with 5 stars standard. It's a great restaurant for all people around the world to eat at. The starters are not expensive and is worth it. The portion size is just right.
our 4th visit since change of ownership service is as good and as welcoming as always drop in food standard - saltier, presentation is least interesting and smaller portions the owner hunded us the bill without asking (how rude?!) this won't make us return, shame!
I have eaten there a few times this year and though small and chaotic, the service was fine. The owner is very pleasant and the food I have ordered there has been great. Yesterday we had a lunchtime set menu of Pork and vegetable soup, noodles and fruit (£5.90) as well as baked chilli salt squid (not on the menu, but is shown as prawn in shell) which is excellent. Usually the reason I go there for. Its dry, spicy and salty but sets the taste buds off (£10.00) . Complimented with a sticky style boiled rice. The portions are described as generous. We drank jasmine tea and the pot was filled up automatically as it was finished (if not, a trick here is to take the lid off and rest it back in the appature with the lid tilted if you want more). The whole bill including service was £23 for two and they were quite happy to let us sit there chatting whilst we finished our tea well after the food was finished. More than happy to go back.
I'm rather surprised by all the negativity on this page. I've been to this restaurant three times in the past year, and the experience has always been a pleasant one. It is perhaps mis-classified - they do some Malaysian dishes, but they're really more Chinese. And they are definitely at the "cheap, but very good value for money" end of the scale - always crowded, can be noisy, rather Spartan decor. Last time I was there we had a 2-person set meal, which was prawn crackers, a quarter crispy aromatic duck, two portions of rice, and three main-course dishes, all of which came to just £33 - not much more than your local Chinese take-away, but the food is FAR better quality - vegetables all perfectly cooked, and one of the nicest sweet and sour sauces I've ever tested, a world away from the usual syrupy rubbish. I've always found the servers to be polite and friendly, too, if maybe a little rushed. Not a place for a quiet, intimate dinner, but if you want good Chinese food that doesn't break the bank, I recommend it quite strongly.
the food was not all that impressive, although i will say the egg fried rice was nice, but incredibly overpriced and service was terrible, the waiter and manager both incredibly rude, and it didn't help that they automatically added the service charge. would definately not go there again.
After experiencing such BAD customer service today I felt it is necessary to write a review! First off the waiter was very ill mannered and sighed and puffed at everything we asked for as if it was a chore. A friend asked for their food to be put in a take away box and the waiter simply shoved two plastic boxes at her, to do it herself. The waiter gave us the bill before we even had our desert! Very unprofessional! It really felt like they wanted us out of there in a hurry! We also had a slight misunderstanding in the service charge and the manager came and saw us and he gave no apologies to us what so ever and he didn't even try to be nice, even though we were being very polite. The reply was "Don't tell me how to run a restaurant" and he walked off! We tried to speak to him again and he walked off ignoring us and he simply did not care; now we had paid our bill. I will not be recommending this place to anyone and will stay far away from this restaurant as much as possible! I would rather pay more money for the food in future if I am going to be treated like a customer! So if you wish to be treated politely and with proper customer care I suggest you go elsewhere!
I've never written a review but thIs experience really was that bad. The restaurant is excessively cramped, and the food was average, if that. The service was unbelievably poor. I have not been treated this badly in a restaurant ever and I do visit various restaurants often. The waiter was consistently rude, answering questions rudely, and making it clear that we were an Inconvenience when asking for extra drinks, etc. If the service was good enough we should never have needed to call the waiter over for extra drink in the first
