Orli

London
The three Orli cafés serving fish and dairy food are under the same ownership as Eighty-Six, the Burger Bar and an excellent bakery. The decor here is unremarkable: photos of the USA with plain dark tables and chairs, and unsubtle lighting. What brings in the punters is the all-day menu: omelettes, borekas and danish pastries for breakfast, through to full evening dinner. In between there’s freshly squeezed orange juice or coffee, with an inviting selection of cakes. The cooking is at its best when simple: grilled salmon or sea bass (rather than the fish in cream sauce); or deep bowls of gutsy soup with fresh challah rolls. Salads are towering, literally – topped with tuna or palm hearts and fried halloumi cheese; needing little attention from a chef. In a starter salad called ‘bebe’ creamy houmous with pickles and hard-boiled egg covered a vast plate (imagine the size of a ‘grown-up’). The young staff are amiable: agreeing to turn down the music, and apologising for the lack of a ripe avocado. All very pleasant, but variety of dishes and sheer quantity seem more evident than memorable flavours.

Food not great quality and expensive for what it is, but menu is varied. When i went no credit cards were accepted. I hope this was because their machine was out of order and not because they're not declaring!
