Kensal Green local with classic British menu and a wide range of events in the evening.
Paradise by Way of Kensal Green might seem like a highfalutin’ name for a bar, but as the phrase comes from a GK Chesterton poem opposing the prohibition of alcohol, we’ll let the owners off. Plus it's a good-looking spot, with chandeliers, velvet drapes, peeling paint and religious iconography lending things a gothic feel.
There's certainly plenty into which to get your teeth, too. The Saturday night Paradise Sessions prove a bit of a draw (it's all about hip hop, house, disco and whatnot), as do the live music nights, cult film nights, cabaret and art shows. Supper clubs are popular, too.
And that's a sign, perhaps, of Paradise's culinary clout. It's recently been beefed up in no small part by its new head chef, Cat Ashton - poached from the Petersham Nurseries Café where she was head chef following Skye Gyngell's departure. The newly refurbished, 100-cover dining looks like a suitably impressive setting for her to do her thing.
She's started by putting together an adventurous seasonal menu that combines European flavours with locally sourced ingredients. Expect, then, dishes ranging from roasted quail with dandelion salad, artichokes, broad beans and feta to stuffed rabbit loin with lentils, morel mushrooms, nettle purée and slow roasted turnips and a 48-day aged rib eye with a honey and tarragon butter. It certainly reads well.
Sit in the lavishly attired restaurant and enjoy seasonal dishes by head chef Cat Ashton (formerly of Petersham Nurseries), made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients: seared beef carpaccio, rocket, parmesan and roasted beetroot vinaigrette, grilled prawns, avocado fattoush salad and tahini yoghurt, and spiced poussin with Jersey Royal potato salad and harissa aioli. With a great conservatory, private dining rooms, 'cheeky Sunday roasts' and more besides, this place has good-time distractions at every turn.

I had always heard great things about Paradise, but visited for dinner the first time the other night and I have to say it definitely lived up to it's expectations. The venue had a laid back elegance about it with a decadent yet affordable menu, would definitely recommend!
I came here last night with friends and the whole experience was absolutely faultless. Our waiter for the night was friendly, accommodating and had great product knowledge, especially on the wine. I would highly recommend ordering the rib eye steak, it was cooked to perfection!!! On top of the great food, the whole atmosphere and interior of paradise is pretty spectacular. If you're in the mood for a decadent evening - its a must go!
I went there for a leaving due and it was packed and with good music to dance. Unfortunately the night was ruined when picking up the coat at the cloak room, as someone stole my umbrella. They looked for it but couldn't find it, then I spoke to the manager and she said they were going to give me a voucher for dinner as compensation, but when I wanted to book via email a few times they never replied. Never coming back!
Another great meal at Paradise! Service and food are equally were both amazing and will continue to keep coming back.
We live in Brighton and accepted an invitation to lunch last Sunday in London. It would proved to be a good day out with the London Marathon and seeing friends. We then found out we were having lunch at Paradise in Kensal Green. First thought was - where's that? After some searching on Google I discovered the pub, its location, menu and reviews. It would not have been my first choice but as we had already accepted the invitation, there was no going back and the reviews helped! On arrival our friends were already there so we sat down to eat. The decor was incredible! The photos on here are 100% accurate! I felt like royalty! We had the charcuterie board (complimented with a variety of pickled veggies) to share which was AMAZING! The meat melted in my mouth and the flavours so individual but all came together beautifully. ... We then opted for the sunday roast, I had lamb the other half indulged himself with the beef - so just got stuck in.... It was amazing! British pub food taken to a new level! I am not a food writer so I really can't do this justice!!! What I can say is that you won't be disappointed! The wines were the perfect accompaniment to the meal. The host chose but I knew I was in perfect hands when I looked at the incredible wine list. We had an amazing choice from South Africa and Spain. The icing on the cake came when I saw they had baked cheese cake on the menu. It was PERECT fork after fork. I indulged till it was all gone! The staff were excellent.. Glasses (wine and water) were topped up - they were just friendly enough and always on hand (they even had a charger of my iPhone… now that is what I call service!) The other diners were jovial, they really seemed to be enjoying their food and drinks. I had almost forgotten it was a Sunday evening by the time it came to go home as the atmosphere was electrifying… This place is a gem of a find. I kinda wished I lived nearby to indulge myself from time to time. If you are a local, I envy you, if you are looking for something that is different, unique and apart from great value a cool place with amazing food - I suggest you try this place… The best thing about trying new places is realising how much more there is out there to discover! Hats off to the management and staff!
I went with 3 friends for dinner at Paradise for the first time. The restaurant was beautiful, and we were welcomed by friendly staff and warm bread. The food was quite nice; I had an artichoke salad to start which was boring, and then seabass for main. I wouldn't say it was anything extraordinary, but with the offer it was okay - the portions were very small. I don't think I will return without the 50% off as it is too pricey for what you get. On the positive side, the wine list is excellent, the atmosphere is nice, and the staff are very knowledgeable and ready to help.
