With a tiny bit of tweaking, Petek could be a wonderful place for an evening meal. Old photos of Istanbul and maps from when that city was still Constantinople cover the walls; the open kitchen at the back is a hive of noise, movement and alluring aromas; and dozens of colourful lamps hang from the kitchen. But there are too many lights – the place felt like a furniture showroom – and the lack of music didn’t help matters. Everything else is spot-on: the food is generously portioned and reasonably priced, the service is efficient and affable, and the cooking is excellent. Large green olives, pillowy soft bread and a fiery chilli sauce appear within moments of arriving, and the starters impress: houmous made with just the right amount of oil and lifted by pomegranate seeds, and a white cheese börek with perfectly light pastry. The köfte main was first-rate; a splash of yoghurt took the edge off the chilli mixed into the minced lamb. Grilled chicken with aubergine sauce was devoured with equal relish: its sauce as smooth and smoky as a Lebanese moutabal dip. Petek is a busy, friendly, industrious local restaurant – but easy on the lighting, please.

Stroud Green[iers?] are currently spoiled for choice. Seasons and Fabrica are both wonderful, but Patek gets my vote in the end: the food is great, portions are huge and prices are affordable - the latter increasingly rare in SG.
Went to peteks last night, it was completely full when we arrived so we were glad we booked. The atmosphere was buzzing and warm. We were given warm bread, olives and a spicy tomato dip on arrival which was great. The food was really delicious, I had the peteks special, meat was cooked to perfection and the portion size was generous. My partner had the meatball moussaka which was also delicious. We also shared a reasonably priced bottle of wine which was very good with the food. Only downside was that we asked to take away what we couldn't finish and it got thrown away, but when we asked they were very apologetic and gave us a free pudding to make up for it. The bill came to £50 which is good value for the portion size and a bottle of wine. All in all I loved it and can't wait to go back.
I have just had a lovely meal at the Petek, Finsbury Park. The restaurant has a relaxed feel to it, with staff suitably attentive but in no way overbearing. It is on street level and is given a unique atmosphere with candle lit rustic tables and a huge collection of lanterns which hang from the ceiling. The food was Turkish in origin, generously proportioned, and cooked to perfection. In passing I mentioned that it was my wife's birthday. Because of the generous proportions we decided not to order sweet, but the staff came over with a delicious birthday treat and three spoons. In my opinion the meal was good value for money, unpretentious, and tasty. I will return.
Gorgeous food. The meat is so tender and the sauces are devine. Generous portions and delicious bread. The service is friendly and fast. My fave restaurant.

The service was super fast even if the place was rammed, got a table after five minutes after coming in off the street. The food was delicious and priceworthy. Very young, buzzy atmosphere in a bohemian, rustic setting. BRILLIANT!
