London's best review, food and drink news
Located just off the suitably bohemian environs of Bonnington Square, this vegetarian restaurant – decked out with endearingly mismatched chairs and tables, and dripping candles in the evening – is community-run, and uncommonly friendly as a result. Local chefs take their turns at the helm each night, so the cuisine – and therefore rather inevitably the standard – varies wildly. The prices however are consistent, and low: £10 for three courses (and BYO). On our last visit, the food far exceeded this price tag: mains of just-so penne panna, packed with porcini mushrooms, and comforting tomato nut roast were both accompanied by a beautifully dressed bean salad. Help yourself to crockery and cutlery, and note that Thursday is vegan night. We've had so-so meals in the past, but caught on the right night (check the website for details of who's cooking), Bonnington Square Café offers one of the best dinner deals to be found in south London.
