  • The Table

    Budget choice
  • By Guy Dimond

  • The Table won the Best Cheap Eats category of the Time Out Eating & Drinking Awards in 2006. Three years on, we detect no slip in standards – the food from the self-service counter is still as appealing as ever, service is with a smile, and the airy, modern dining room is as beautiful as you’d hope for when it’s designed and owned by a leading architecture firm. Breakfast dishes include the usual pastries and cereals, but also porridge, granola and lots of healthy options. Mid-morning it shifts to a lunch menu of wrapped sandwiches for takeaway customers, plus plenty of colourful salads and freshly made hot dishes. The menu changes daily, but on a recent visit included a choice of chargrilled fish of the day (sea bream or salmon), or a roast butternut squash tart with goats’ cheese. The coffee’s from Monmouth. Since winter, The Table has started serving brunch at weekends, and this has proved a big hit with Borough Market shoppers on Saturdays.
