The design and decor of this unassuming modern restaurant (brightly painted lilac walls, starched white tablecloths and plasma screens showing Bollywood movies) won’t set your pulse racing. No matter, as the fiery Keralite food surely will. Shilpa celebrates southern coastal cooking with a seafood-heavy menu. Expect rich coconut masalas, an abundance of curry leaves, and spicy-hot flavours that pack a punch. Dense and crunchy vadai (lentil fritters with a creamy coconut chutney) were a lovely way to start the meal. A large bowl of rasam broth was also top-notch – rich and warming with a sour hit of tamarind and fresh coriander. To follow, king fish curry with green chillies and coconut milk was a little overcooked, but the masala dosa brought things back on track, the spiced potatoes encased in a perfectly light and crisp pancake. Friendly staff warned us when we were ordering too much, but it was hard to believe portions would be so generous with prices so reasonable. In particular, the set lunches under a fiver are a bargain.

Hi guys, I'm a down to earth, easy going girl who loves a good giggle and gossip, but who doesn't?! I'm just as happy bouncing around a dancefloor...

To start with i would like to compliment Mr Jay Nambiar for a cosy Malabari place in the city. After the first experience of mediocre service but truly authentic food i decided to return back to Shilpa for the latter with some colleagues. We went in and were greeted by a smiling young man who escorted us to our table. We ordered two big bottles of beer and then a presentable elderly gentleman brought drinks to the table. He served one of them and went on the other end of the table with the second and as we had just begun to tell him that the beer was not for him but for somebody else, he just flew off the handle and started screaming that we ordered two beers and we were supposed to open our mouths and speak clearly. Could there have been a more welcoming way to start our lunch!!!! We ordered some food. The mussels were the most elastic things i had ever seen in my life,,,,,,,but i thought it happens and tried to inform the grumpy waiter to which he promptly replied that it was their style of cooking. That was not all ,we had to change our main course thrice because apparently their suppliers did not turn up. By this time we were really scared to complain as the looks we got from the senior waiter were quite frightening. Finally we ordered some payasam , only to hear that it was over and mind you we were the only table in the restaurant. Well i must compliment the services of the young waiter (whenever he had a chance to come to the table) and the food quality. Finally i must say to all you foodies that although the food is good, i would never dare to take anybody there for an outright insult.
this is my second review about shilpa. what can i say abt ths place ths restaurant has somethin different in store for us when we visit it. the scallops here are just great. and the king fish masala fry is just yummmmmmmmm. but the surprise pacakage is the murgh malai tikaa which is very difficult to find in a south indian restaurant . Full marks to the chicken tikka masala as well which is so different from the other chicken tikkas i have ever tried. please make an attemept to visit ths resaturant No matter how far u live .
The walls aren't lilac, there's no TV screens showing Bollywood movies but otherwise this review is spot on. This place provides really good value Keralan food of a high quality, far better than many other so-called Keralan places in London.
My sheekh kebab was a little disconcerting as the meat was so finely minced the texture was like a frankfurter but it was spicy and tasty the way kebabs should be. The kingfish molai was great. Vaut bien le voyage, especially with the current special offer.
I SIMPLY LOVE THE FOOD AT SHILPA . I VISIT THIS RESTAURANT THREE TIMES IN A WEEK AS ITS OUR GANGS FAV HANGOUT PLACE. SIMPLY LOVE THE LAMB PORICHATTU , THE KING FISH FRY AND HOW CAN I FORGET THE ' KONJU MASALA' WITH MALABARI PARATHA . PLS TRY THIS RESTAURANT ONCE IN UR LIFE. AWESOME FOOD AND THE CHEF IS REALLY AWESOME AS WELL. U ORDER ANY KERALA SPECIALITY U KNOW AND I AM SURE HE WILL TRY TO MAKE IT FOR YOU. HIGHLY RECOMMEDED FOR FOOD AND SERVICE IS NOT SO GREAT .
