Very disappointing food at dinner Sunday; more like function food and hard to reconcile the glowing reports on some blog sites. Service needs attention quickly; there's lots of better choices nearby. Clientele already looks like they located this restaurant through internet sites....those in the know have moved on ..and the music..were we listening to internet radio? James

Riding House Café really does have a bit of everything. You can sit at individual settings, or on the grand candelabra-lit communal dining table; in the more secluded dining room, or on low chairs in the lounge – or soak up the action at the buzzing bar. There are antiques, curios (wall lamps made from stuffed squirrels, for instance) and architectural salvage from around the globe. You can roll up in a work suit, or shorts and flip flops. Bring your agent or your kids. You could drink a coffee, a pre-dinner cocktail, a Riding House mocktail, something from the wide-ranging wine list, or a beer. You might eat full-sized brasserie dinners, tapas-like sharing plates, or bar snacks. Come for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, Sunday roast, or anything in between. It’s whatever eating experience you want it to be, though there’s little choice in your co-diners – an almost uniformly media crowd. The food, though nice enough, didn’t blow our minds. The Moorish lamb was succulent and tender, the soft-shell crabs crunchy, the cheeseburger juicy and the chips tasty, yet there was nothing we’ll remember in three days’ time. The cocktails, on the other hand, are creative concoctions topped with mini salad sculptures. With attentive service and a lively atmosphere, this is a great place to watch Fitzrovia go by.

Unbelievably POOR service. Was there for over three hours and only had a Main and a dessert. My main was barely a main, it was more like a small starter. Staff Ignore you. The food was not worth the money at all. Would have actually preferred a Mc Donald’s (and considering I never eat there, that’s saying something) Avoid this place.
What a shame, my fourth visit to the usually to-die-for Riding House cafe was a shambles. Five of our diners ordered the burger (three medium rare and two well done for pregnant ladies), five of our diners sent the rare burgers they recieved back. While the rest of the party finished their food, five hungry ladies waited 30 mins for the second round of burgers, only to receive them rare again. Cue some unhappy ladies. One burger went back a second time and still returned rare and the rest of the party gave up and left them. When we complained at the end of the meal the very rude manager refused to take them all off the bill, even though none of them were eaten. Apparently we should have sent them all back a second time and waited another 30 mins for them to come out again. Riding House cafe, where once I recommended you I must now tell everyone that your burgers and your customer service are shocking.
Terrible service - we booked for four but ended up as a party of five and front of house were very unwilling to accommodate us. Slow cocktail service. We overpaid the bill by accident +50 quid and no one pointed this out until we realised our mistake. Over all - unfriendly, moneygrabbing, snotty, unhelpful
The quality and presentation of this place was spectacular. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. I would say close to michelin territory. The Service was attentive, warm and friendly and the atmosphere created a trendy classy and buzzing ambience. This restaurant is highly recommended
I really liked this place. Im a big foodie and my bf took me here one Sunday night. I love the decor and atmosphere. Very cool, New York style place. Food was good. Try lots of the small plates. We did and we were not dissappointed. We then also had a main and a dessert. I think this would be a very good place for lunch. And the Bar is also very good! I had a honey cocktail concoction. Try it
We were dissapointed to come all the way across London for Brunch on Jan 2nd to be told that they stopped serving brunch at 11:30 (despite the listing here saying 12pm) and that they wouldn't start serving lunch for another hour.
The staff were initially attentive but as the night wore on they lost interest due to having obviously overbooked the restaurant. Our waiter was increasingly agitated by his own admittance, having worked since the breakfast shift. The mackerel pate was tasty, well balanced and not too creamy. The FIsh and Chips were disappointing. The fish was greasy and the chips cold and dry by the time they arrived. Friends enjoyed the food, though the pollock, which was enjoyable was a very small portion for a main dish especially considering the price.
Charming, patient, thoughtful service and really lovely food. The ceviche was a highlight but all the small plates were tasty and good looking.
Had an amazing anniversary dinner. Top value for money and the service was incredibly attentative but discreet at the right moment. Pork and duck were both very well prepared. Wine by the carafe is also a nice touch!
I gave it two tries just in case, the second time with a friend. Occasional good touches like the beetroot small dish. However, jalapeno pepper with delicately smoked trout destroyed any flavour in the fish. Friend commented on the shortage of crab in crab salad advertised. Rasberry and goosberry dish just didn't taste very nice. Nor did the fish n' chips for which the Golden Hind is a far better bet. Asparagus and carrots had little or no flavour which in summer is a bit of a disgrace. Chocolate sundae tasted good but was too runny - ice-cream is supposed to be iced in some form. Service was very indifferent with a small over-charge after an order was missed. There is a real risk here of a good idea suffering from over-trading and consequent loss of quality.
just about give it 1 star due to interesting interior - warm and cosy (well, apart from the worse seat by the door they gave us until we insisted on moving that is). Food overpriced - my main was a joke. size of a small starter. had to go home and cook dinner afterwards. pretentious and basically taking the p*ss with prices and food like that.
I LOVE this place - Its my weekend retreat - Recommend the chorizo hash browns, the seafood salad, the oysters, the mash.... oh all so delicious. And the staff are so nice. My facebook page is getting boring I've "checked in" there so much! And stunningly beautiful so great brunch-erie for entertaining. Very mayfair-esque.
We went for brunch on a saturday morning, getting there shortly after 10. Both "sides" were over half empty, but after a bit of persuasion we were offered a seat at the bar as long as we didn't mind waiting 15 minutes. Errr, no. Unfriendly and unhelpful - not the point really when you want a nice start to the weekend. We walked on to Lantana - much better, and lovely staff.
A true gem in a cracking location. Fantastic cocktails, super wine list and first class chateaubriand (look out for the tomatoes with the chateaubriand, HEAVEN). The fitout was as expected... extremely creative. Service was very good, if not a little OTT! Probably one of the best restaurant in Fitzrovia, might even be up there with The Four Lanterns.
Having visited Village East the 'sister' restaurant we had high expectations of the Riding House on Satuday for a birthday meal, but i can say that 8 people left there VERY satisfied by some great food, service and drink - Seabass Ceviche & Chateaubriand, Seabass main all stuck out as absolute discussion points on the way home. Service was relaxed - just how we like it
Incredible cocktails and imiginative food done brilliantly definitely worth a visit. Starter choices are great, very interesting format of menu
Great cocktails, AMAZING Chateaubriand... go while the 50% off is still on as I'm not sure I'd have been keen on paying full price for everything - it's great value at the moment.
