I'm pretty sure the staff are told they're not allowed to smile. Otherwise I can't understand how management allows such unfriendly staff to work there. We went for a Sunday roast and it was really average, absolutely not worth the steep price of it, I've had much much better roasts elsewhere for a fraction of the price. The portion size at least is decent. The venue is nice if you get a seat in the window room, the view is lovely over the market. Overall though, I wouldn't recommend!

If U love your Sunday Roast then this is the place to go. I had Roast Belly of Pork with apple sauce and mash with sides of veg. Pork had a lovely thick crackling & the steamed Ginger pudding was to die for.

Went there recently for a family celebration. The food is good but a little overpriced really – it's gastro pub fare. The service is a little too much. I am quite able to pour white wine and water but they refused to put these on the table, meaning you have to wait until they are ready to refill your glasses. Those at my table not drinking wine, were often without water for periods of time, meaning I had to try my best to get someone's attention which put a bit of a dampener on my evening.

We visited Roast recently after a friend recommended it. We were seated in the bar area which we were not happy about as we thought the music would be too loud, but actually the singer Kate was brilliant and her guitarist was fantastic. They really made our evening and chatted to us but were not intrusive and the choice of songs was lovely. We have been back twice since and will not hesitate to recommend this restaurant, although we did find the food was a bit expensive but the wine list was extensive and excellent.

We arrived in the borough area hoping to go to black and blue. The empty restaurant had a 40 min wait for a table of 2. We stumbled instead on Roast. What a fabulous find! Lovely restaurant, delicious food and attentive service. Our main of porterhouse steak took a little longer than expected and we were served some smoked trout on the house to wet our appetites. A little expensive but lovely location. Will definitely be back!

Overpriced. The food was good, in style and quality comparable to a good gastropub, but does not live up to it's price. The wine list was original and extensive. The location overviewing borough market is amazing, although not much action outside in the evening. The interior itself was a bit bland, cheap lighting, hotel style run of the mill furniture. Live music was enjoyable (except when he started to sing). if it was half price it would have my recommendation.

Amazing atmosphere, great service, good drinks list. Only qualm I have would be that I ordered a vego dish as I'd had a really big meaty lunch. Everyone else's meat dishes came out looking delicious and were polished off with gusto. the vegetarian option was boring and not very tasty. To be fair, with a name like Roast, you wouldn't necessarily expect good vego options but it's frustrating trying to find good vegetarian dishes!

Roast continuously delivers excellent food and drinks. I personally find the service to be the best I have come across in London to date, possibly even in Europe. I started working in Southwark this year, and have since been to Roast on many occassions with friends from all over the world - New Zealand, Belgium etc. who all enjoyed the setting and the food. I would give 5 stars if it weren't so easy to rack up a bill that almost turns your stomach, but I wouldn't keep coming back if I wouldn't think it was worth it. One of my favorite places in London, and I would recommend it for business and for a special treat.
