Traditional Lebanese cookery meets modern London style at Maida Vale’s The Cedar Lebanese Restaurant. The dining room, fully refurbished in 2011, reflects contemporary urban tastes with exposed brick providing a hint of lofty industrial living, tempered by understated mood lighting, fresh flowers and furniture in warm, earthy tones of wood and leather. Serving a variety of Lebanese dishes, The Cedar provides a widely varied menu, ranging from hot and cold mezze specialties to grilled kebab dishes and even pizzas, both Italian and Lebanese in flavour. Not only are guests offered authentic dinners at The Cedar but breakfasts and lunches too from a huge selection of Manakeesh – a popular pizza-like Levantine dish – and sandwiches filled with home-style ingredients. A friendly, accommodating meeting place, The Cedar is ideal for business lunches, for meeting with friends over coffee and a nibble or for romantic dinners.

Cedar is a small family ran Lebanese restaurant in Maida Vale. It is one these places that you might pass by and not even think to enter but once you do, you totally fall in love with the food. I was introduced to Cedar by a friend of mine who used to live in the area and ever since I never forget to have lunch or dinner there every time I am in Maida Vale. The restaurant is small, I believe it fits 7-8 tables with very simple decoration. The menu offers a variety of dishes. There are hot mezze and cold mezze which are to be ordered for starters. Don't miss the hummus, it is delicious. If you want to try something different then go for the moutabal, which is smashed grilled aubergine with lemon. From the salads, fattoush is my favourite! The main courses are meat dishes served with chips, salad or rice. The chicken shawarma is the one I always order: take a piece of the pita bread they always bring on the table, add a couple of chicken pieces inside, chips, houmous and a couple of tomatoes and you have your own stuffed pita! It is delicious!

The Cedar is one of those gems that you accidentally find in your neighbourhood. I got to go there because a friend lives just next door and I must say it is one of the best food I've had in London so far. Everything was just so fresh and tasteful, the stuff is so nice, friendly and polite. The interior decoration is nothing exceptional, but the dishes are amazing and it is ridiculously cheap. You get so full without becoming poor. It is a spot for many Lebanese people. I hadn't tasted Lebanese cuisine much before but now it is one of my favourite! They also do takeaway! Do pay a visit if you are around - or even if you aren't!
