Ed's Easy Diner
It's 10.30pm on a Thursday, and Elvis croons 'In the Ghetto' from Ed's chrome jukebox. In homage to the King we perch on a red vinyl bar stool and order a peanut butter shake, a 'Big Bubba' burger (with bacon and cheese) and 'Atomic' fries, which come with five dips (chilli, melted cheese, sweet onion relish, guacamole and cream cheese). Girls in cowboy hats kissing lager-boys in suits - the flotsam and jetsam of the Soho night - ebb and flow through the brightly lit little diner: a post-Grease, 1987 take on the 1950s. Behind the circular bar, cheery staff dole out dogs, burgers, fried chicken, chilli and even the occasional salad. It's good fun, but food is pretty average: our chips and burger were dryish, with the cheese, beef and bacon lacking much flavour other than salt; the peanut butter shake was a thick, sweet gross-out; and the meal as a whole was akin to a drunken raid on the fridge. New owner, Rankvale Hospitality, could learn much from the gourmet-burger restaurants, which have left Ed's way behind. Like a warning on our cholesterol intake, Buddy Holly chirps out 'Heartbeat' as we leave.

Tables outdoors ( 2, pavement ), Babies and children welcome ( children's menu ), Bookings not accepted, Takeaway serviceI have never written a review for a restaurant but I felt compelled to write one for Ed's Easy Diner.
I am usually one of those people who 'if I don't have anything nice to say, I won't say anything at all' but I think it's important to warn potential customers not to come here unless they want to have their night completely ruined.
I decided to take my boyfriend here last friday night as a little treat as he'd just got his Masters results (a distinction) and I wanted us to try something gastronomically diverse to what we usually go for (either Maccy D's or Italian restaurants). I did a bit of research mainly through this website and google and after looking at the menu on Ed's website I decided to go.
We had to wait outside the restaurant for about 10/15 minutes, which although we were hungry, we didn't mind too much as it was a Friday night. However, when we reached the front of the queue the host didn't greet us properly and was extremely rude. Seeing that there was nobody behind me and my boyfriend in the queue and that a booth table was about to be vacated, I politely asked the host if we could possibly sit there to have a bit of privacy (the other option was sitting on a stool at the bar) and he agressively replied 'I'll seat you where I seat you'', so I promptly left. Now, I understand that Friday nights can be stressful as I used to work in a popular restaurant but there was really no excuse for the way he spoke to me.
So don't go here if you value politeness. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food as I was deprived of the opportunity to try it!
