This tiny neighbourhood café is generally full to bursting point, but that's part of its charm. Run by the affable Mario (on first-name terms with most of his customers), its tables fill up with regulars squeezed together to peruse the papers, complain about the football and linger for ages over cups of tea. The menu is a mix of Italian caffè and Brit greasy spoon, with breakfast options ranging from ciabatta with prosciutto and poached egg to classic fry-ups mopped away with enormous hunks of toast. Lunchtimes bring no-nonsense caff-style specials (lamb with roast spuds, say), toasted focaccia and proper home-made pasta; the spinach and ricotta tortellini, handmade by Mario's mum, is simply not to be missed.
