A grand old spot refurbished with love, Bentley's marries British traditions with chef-patron Richard Corrigan's fine-dining sensibilities. Staff are formally dressed and fastidious in their work, yet ready for a chat when time allows. We prefer the convivial ground-floor oyster bar to the stiffer upstairs restaurant. Glasses and cutlery sparkle against the wood panelling; chairs feature velvet stripes and studded red leather; walls are hung with angling trophies, zoological drawings and staff photos from the old days. Outside are umbrella-shaded pavement tables with garden chairs.

A blackboard advertises daily specials from across the globe: Vietnamese-style sea bass, say, scallops with white peach and jalapeño pepper, or roast brill with girolles, leeks and young capers. But it's always tempting to opt for the benchmark fish pie and a bottle of green Tabasco.

A good choice for business lunches and pre- or post-theatre sustenance, Bentley's is now open for breakfast too: it's wonderful to watch London unfold while eating thick-cut cold-smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, toast and a handful of sprightly watercress, or the Irish breakfast including black pudding and a baked oyster. Artisan suppliers are name-checked in typical Corrigan style; our only query regarded the use of teabags.

Besides the incredible food, i simply adore the atmosphere of the Oyster Bar and the live pianist! Just a really fantastic addition to such delicious food - I've sampled many of their dishes and can honestly say that i've loved every one of them; my absolute favourite has to be the oysters (of course). Worth every penny.

I love the oyster bar and have enjoyed some really great plates of fish, tapas style, washed down with a wonderful Albarrino while perched on a high stool. The food was faultless and the atmosphere great. We even had a pianist to add to the Friday night vibe! I agree with the TO review that the main restaurant seemed a little dead.

A group of us paid around £50 each for the St Patricks Day event at Bentleys. I wouldnt recommend it. They put you in a damp smelling cellar and put on a buffet that even your mother could better. Then a whole load of other people come in for the evening event and they swipe away your seats. The man himself swans in later (Richard Corrigan) and what a total arrogant idiot he is, we all hated him (us being all female) vile, vile man.

I arrange lots of lunches, dinners and events and I would never, ever go near his places ever again. Ive been to Corrigans in Mayfair too where they will plonk bread on your table and charge you extra for that - something like £2.50 per head for a slice of bread, as if they dont charge enough. What a let down. I would avoid. Plenty of other lovely places to go with far better food and ambience - try any of the Micehlin star reataurants for lunch - excellent value.

I recently visited Bentlely's to celebrate my wedding anniversary but unfortunately was really disappointed. The oysters were excellent but the main course was so salty I was left with stomach cramps and had to spend the rest of the evening drinking gallons of water. Would highly recommend a visit for the oysters alone but would steer clear of any other dishes as they are overpriced and overseasoned.

I recently went to Bentleys for dinner and enjoyed it immensely! Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly, I quite enjoyed sitting outside on their small patio.

Although in a higher price range, the food is well worth what you are paying for it. Sadly to say I did not enjoy any oysters on this visit, but the food we did order was absolutely perfect--the mediterranean fish stew, especially.

The service was swift, but not rushed, and the staff were very pleasant. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I would recommend to anyone!

I visited Bentleys recently - the food is excellent - especially the fish pie - luckily 'Daniel' was not my waiter (mentioned in the previous review) although I'd describe the service as 'brisk' which suited me. I felt perfectly comfortable in casual attire and was pleasantly surprised that the prices were reasonable and there was nothing stuffy or finicky/fussy about the place. However I did notice that some of the diners appeared to be regulars and greeted the maitre d' as an old friend and seemed to absorb his attention - which is fine but this makes it feel clicky for other non-regular diners. I'd go back - I love Richard Corrigan's menu - its delightful.

I was in Swallow St today just bimbling around London and decided to have lunch in the Oyster bar at Bentleys. The welcome as I entered was warm and friendly and I was shown to my seat at the bar...which I chose as I was on my own. After that things went a little sour!! The drinks and food menu were nearly thrown down in front of me by a waiter (Daniel I think thry called him) who remained surely and stone faced throughout the remainder of the service. He took no time to explain the specials menu to me and took my order without passing a word or even breaking into a smile.....other staff around me seemed much happier and prepared to talk to the customers with a smile. I ordered the Mackrel with mustard, potatoe and bacon for starters and the Pork Belly with Scallops as main with a half litre carafe of Muscadet.

The food was all I had expected and hoped it would be. The Scallops were tasty and succulent whilst the pork belly melted in your mouth and there was nothng that could be found wanting. However the presence of Daniel loitering to clear (or should I say snatch) my plates even before I had finished made me feel that I wasn't even welcome and was being hurried into collecting my coat. Maybe I caught him on a bad day...who knows. It did however taint what was a beautiful meal....and he certainly needed to take a happy pill today!! Maybe it was me...I had just come in from the streets, had jeans on and maybe wasn't the sort of customer he would like to see in there...who knows!!!

I suppose the big question is 'Would I go back?' Most certainly. 'Would I sit at the bar gain?'.....Not if Daniel is anywhere near it....and wouldn't go back if I thought he may serve me else where in there...!!

Don't let this detract from the restauant itself though. The food was wonderful and the rest of the staff polite, pleasant and cheerful. Well worth a visit.
