If Carlsberg did gastropubs, they'd be just like the Roebuck. The bar is spacious, the seating comfy; alfresco tables populate the wide Chiswick pavement in summer, and there's a beautiful garden at the back. The cool dining room has widely spaced tables from where you can watch your food being cooked.
Cheerful and helpful staff bring a regularly refreshed, succinct menu that seems to have something for everyone - including some of the best hand-cut triple-cooked chips in the known universe.
Prices are very reasonable for this part of town, with a chargrilled sirloin steak accompanied by those cosmic chips and peppercorn sauce for only £16, and melt-in-the-mouth, slow-cooked pork belly with parsley mash, savoy cabbage and glazed beetroot at £14.50. 'Seasonal' and 'fresh' seem to be the watchwords, even for the amazing-value £5 lunches on weekdays (a great draw for locals), and the two-course dinner on Sunday and Monday evenings (a mere £12.50).
The drinks menu is impressive and the wine list cleverly arranged by type; you'll almost certainly like it if you usually go for sauvignons, pinot grigios, chardonnays or merlots. Probably the best gastropub to be found in this part of the world.

Prices are rocketing and the new female manager is not what you would call friendly. I've been a customer since it opened but I more often walk on by these days. Shame, it used to be very good.
