Mother Mash
At first sight, this narrow, white-tiled room seems cramped with its booths, stools and marble countertops, but Mother Mash is a lively place for tucking into some prime comfort food.
The three-step ordering process adds to the fun - choose your mash, choose your main, choose your gravy - although a variety of enticing options at each stage ensure this isn't as simple as it sounds.
On our visit, a daily special of toulouse sausages was served with a creamy helping of mustard mash and farmer's gravy (likeably flavoured with red wine, mushroom and onion). Opposite, a steak and ale pie arrived well puffed (deceptively so, as it would have benefited from a more generous helping of the rich filling) and set at a jaunty angle atop its bed of mash.
Lateish opening hours, a decent wine and beer list and animated staff make Mother Mash an excellent beginning or end to a night on the town.

Good little eatery :-)
OK it's not Michelin starred, but it's good old-fashioned British food with a twist.
Very reasonably priced for central London! As cheap as chips, or as mash I'd say!
