Olley's occupies a prominent spot opposite Brockwell Park. Inside, it resembles a Mediterranean taverna, with a smattering of nautical paraphernalia and extremely friendly service. The menu features a dozen types of fish (battered, steamed or grilled), with a selection of meal options named after local celebrities or famous customers.
After more than 20 years' practice, the kitchen has got things down to a fine art: batter is crisp and not too oily; chips and mushy peas are expertly judged too. Food is complemented by a small drinks list, including wine and the excellent Innis & Gunn beer.
Olley's may not be the best chippy in London, but it's certainly in the top bracket. The only drawback is the bill, which can sometimes pinch a little if you haven't come for one of the early-bird deals.

Visited Ollys during the Christmas/New Year holiday. "James Nesbitt Experience", totally overpriced.Piece of haddock very small, too much batter (to make it look BIG) and mushy peas were more puree than peas.Soggy catering chips to fill up the plate. Overpriced, poor quality and not worth another visit! Total waste of money!!!
Enjoyed our lunch at Olleys - the salmon fishcake was lightly battered and very fragrant. Our plaice fillet was equally tasty, light and crisp. We shared a portion of chunky chips, which was plenty between two of us, and washed it all down with two perfectly formed glasses of Pinot Grigio. The service was friendly and attentive and the park view was definitely a bonus and a lunchtime treat! Will definitely go back to try more of their huge range of fish.
Went to Olleys last night for dinner. Lovely food, great service and love the gluten free menu. Will be taking my Dad there as he loves Fish and Chips!
Did I hear someone say "Gluten Free?!"
I was overwhelmed with happiness when my other half took me to this cosy and very friendly staffed restaurant. Loved the food, wasn't too pricy and i had an ice cream bigger than my head!! Which in my case, is a good thing :)
Will be booking a table for the work night out, I love place now and will be a regular!
Appallingly overpriced and definitely not the best fish and chips in town. Not worth a journey to, not worth having as a local.
A disappointing meal for all diners in our party. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble but the food, well that's another story! The fish was dry, overpriced and small in portion size. When my husband returned it, he was swiftly presented with another fresh plate with the same small, dry overcooked fish. It was grossly overpriced and we were shocked at how this restaurant had recieved any good reviews. Enter with caution!!!
HRM "Emily", I wonder where you got any of your notes from, as nowhere in this review is mentioned any of the abovementioned overcooked fish, bad dessert or patchy service. In fact service and dessert are not mentioned, and the fish is described appealingly: "the kitchen has got things down to a fine art: batter is crisp and not too oily."
Was not impressed, looks a lovely place, but my takeaway ORGANIC ! pie was all pastry and no filling, what there was of it was dry and overcooked. Not worth the £5 price tag
i'm a little confused - how does this place get a 4 star when the write up says that the fish was overcooked, the dessert doesn't sound very nice and the service is patchy?
hmmm...
