If you believe buckwheat is for health freaks, Tatra will force a rethink. In this striking, if rather 1980s-styled eaterie (plenty of painted black wood, bare brick and faux leather seating), the buckwheat 'risotto', and golabki of cabbage leaves, buckwheat and mushrooms are objects of desire. No butter is spared either on plump dumplings with sauerkraut and cottage cheese.
The young chef plays with the modern Polish and eastern European repertoires, producing occasionally risky pairings and unexpected results. Thus savoury black pudding with apples came with a sweet dressing of herbs and overly reduced balsamic vinegar. We preferred the smoked Polish sausag with a tangy mix of Polish and American mustards. In general, the classics worked better: bigos, a delectable stew of sauerkraut, beef, pork sausage and potatoes; and stuffed cabbage parcels with creamy mushroom sauce.
Portion sizes seemed a little smaller in relation to price than previously - and near-burnt ingredients marred an otherwise lovely cottage cheese and rum pancake for pudding. The own-flavoured vodkas were as delicious as ever; Tatra has a dozen varieties ranging from puréed fruit to freshly grated horseradish, served from frozen.

Babies and children welcome ( high chairs ), Booking advisable ( weekends ), Available for hire, Disabled ( toilet )Encouraged by the excellent reviews, I had chosen Tatra to introduce friends to Polish cuisine. And what a disappointment! Despite reservation 3 weeks in advance, the table wasn’t ready for us, we had to wait for another party to leave. Other then that the service was good.
The only dish that was actually fresh was the herring salad and crumble on the apple and rhubarb crumble. Everything else was definitely prepared in advanced, frozen and reheated – including pierogi!
In both duck and pork shrank, meat was very dry and very unpleasant to eat. Dumplings accompanying the duck were burned to the point that they were not edible. Seriously - nothing was fresh there (not even the cabbage side dishes!) – not tasty, really not nice to eat; in fact we haven’t finished the main courses.
Cream brule and crumble were OK, however cheesecake clearly wasn’t as both portions went back to the kitchen only half eaten.
This was an important dinner for me and I deeply regret choosing Tatra.
Perhaps the food was nice and fresh there in the past – not anymore!
Very, very poor quality of food.
The food was excellent. the staff were attentive & friendly and the service was discreet. The food has a polish touch . It does attract many Polish which is always a good sign. The chicken kiev was excellent and the Pierogi were mouthwatering. The wine list is good. The vodka and dessert selection is excellent.
