Red Fort
The Red Fort remains a landmark among London's North Indian restaurants, maintaining high standards despite changes of chef, interior and menu over two decades. With the high standards go high prices - though on our visit, packs of guffawing office workers filled the sleekly furnished dining room, drawn by an online half-price food offer. This proved to be an excellent deal, with no diminution of culinary standards.
A simple starter of seekh kebab was a princely version, the lamb finely minced to a paste-like consistency, then sensitively flavoured with a garam masala of freshly ground spices: quite sublime. Although every curry house makes similar claims, the Red Fort's menu really does contain original recipes from the courtly cooking of the Moghuls. That curry house staple, bhuna gosht, showed regal lineage, with chunks of lamb in a warming, ginger-flecked curry.
Even the simplest of our dishes, from the dals to the breads, was perfectly evocative of the real India, both past and present. The seafood dishes tend towards the contemporary, the samundari ratan seafood stew containing scallops, an ingredient not seen in the kitchens of the Raj. A perfect venue for smart occasions, where the whiff of fenugreek won't offend.

Babies and children admitted, Booking advisable, Available for hire, Dress ( smart casual ), Vegan dishes, Vegetarian menuDined here a couple of weeks ago. The food is well above average for an Indian restaurant - you won't find any of the standard British-Indian dishes on the menu. But, while it is very nice, the prices are perhaps just a little steep. It wouldn't cost you much more to go to Moti Mahal in Covent Garden, and the food there is definitely over the line between "good" and "superb".
We have been enjoying dining at this place for years. Excellent food and service.
I came here for dinner two weeks ago with some friends and i had a great time, thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. Beautiful interior and lavish surroundings, i was really amazed. It was of course, expensive, but very understandable given the quality of the food, which was truly delicious. I opted for several vegetarian dishes. Our service was friendly and efficient, can't wait to come to visit again next time I'm in Soho !
Just been to this restaurant. The service was rubbish - very in attentive - almost impossible to pay as no one took any notice - eventually had to to get up and sort it out myself
Its also incredibly over priced - you would get a better curry by taking a taxi to Drummond street near Euston - and save yourself £50 per head, taxi fare included
