Given the culinary cross-pollination between the two countries, it's strange that it has taken until now for a restaurant to offer an Iranian and Afghan fusion menu. Zeytoon's walls feature tapestries, turquoise mosaics and brick arches decorated with paintings of ethereal Persian women; a wooden shisha terrace is set with heat lamps and plastic trees decked in coloured lights.
Service on our visit was erratic; the waiter insisted on taking away starters of boorani (spinach and yoghurt dip) and a superb kashk-e bademjan (mashed aubergine and garlic, topped with crisp fried onions) to make way for mains, despite the fact we were still eating. The mains were excellent: an Iranian ghorm-e sabzi stew was full of meat and greens, with a welcome citrus kick thanks to plentiful dried limes; and the signature Afghan dish of qabli polow (lamb shank with brown rice flavoured with carrot, raisins and almonds) was delicious and hearty enough for two. With more consideration from staff, Zeytoon could be more than just a great local.

The food was superb and the service was good. It would seem that the service issues mentioned in some of the other reviews have been sorted now.
I have been there recently. No Iranian music for start. VERY slow service(when only 3 double tables occupied). After 10 minutes waiting we decided to call someone to take the order. Food was served in 15 minutes time, only because we asked for waiting time. The drinks which we ordered were not served( we had to remind them to bring it and were served when we almost finished the food). All this and quality of the salads and basic health & safety when serving the drinks definitely did not encourage me to come back. I know other restaurants where for the same prize can be delivered at least better service.
First off, the good points: food is excellent! The humous was delicious with a nice lemony twang, while the chicken and minced lamb kebabs were very tasty. The saffron rice was also incredibly fresh. And in terms of setting Zeytoon looks great -- nice wooden tables and a real sense of its Afghan/Iranian roots.
Sadly, the one bad point ruined our meal: the service. Absolutely dreadful. No one brought us any menus or asked us for drinks when we sat down, then when we flagged up the lack of menus after 5mins they only brought us one. Took ages to order, and the waiter didn't write down anything. Normally this is fine if they're competent, but this waiter got our drinks wrong and forgot what we ordered for mains. Starter took about 15 mins to arrive, and the mains took a shocking 45 mins! And that's only after we vented our frustration to a waiter. After the meal we were so fed up we went to the till and paid there and then, as we knew they would take forever to give us our bill. As we were leaving we saw another customer moaning about the poor service, so glad it wasn't just us!
Overall, a frustrating experience. The food is delightful, but until their service improves I shan't be going back.
My husband and I LOVE this restaurant. We live about 40 minutes away and STILL go there for takeaway when we cant eat in.
I never usually write reviews but want to encourage people to go there so we can still get our food!
Lamb kebabs are lovely, all food is fresh and piping hot.
Service is fast and the staff are always helpful.
My husband is iranian and even though im not, I always feel really welcome. The manager even comes out when they see we are there.
The sweets are also lovely at the end. Go and you wont be dissapointed. Id rather to go here than any other persian restaurant in north london, and trust me, we have been to a lot!
The price is reasonable and well worth everything you get.

Excellent food and service. Went there last night and it definitely won't be the last time. Top notch food, authentic and large portions, good polite service. Planned our next visit already :)
last night out dining at zeytoon was our first time having Afghan cuisine and it wont be the last.....the food was delicious and the service was xcellent!!
I took my girlfriend and her mother to this restaurant after a long days shopping at brent cross. We order various starters and main courses. When the food arrived the chicken skewers and lamb fillet were average but all the lamb kebabs were raw in the middle which is an INSULT to persian kebabs! So we sent them back and didn't receive an apology from the waiter. Apart from the average food, the service was dreadful, the so called "Manager" would come up to our table every 15 minutes and say: 'You want something?'
All in all a very bad experience never had I ever wanted to leave a restaurant so fast in my life! London offers many beautiful persian restaurants unfortunately this isnt one of them!
I have dined regularly at Zeytoon having found it to be the best value Persian/Afghan Restaurant in the area. The food is delicious and the chef obviously is very experienced as the quality of the food has been consistently high. I recommend the mixed grill of various succulent kebab skewers cooked to your preference and the Qabeli Palau is by far the best Qabeli Palau I have ever tasted compared to any other Afghan restaurant or caterer that I have tried. The Iranian dishes are cooked to perfection and look as good as they taste when served. Zeytoon does not skimp on quality or customer satisfaction and I highly recommend it to all my friends.
