The green, hand-painted plaque inside declares Bamboula a 'nuff niceness eatry'. After sampling the home-style Jamaican cooking, we couldn't disagree. The green and yellow interior resembles a Montego beach shack; coupled with a gentle reggae soundtrack and friendly service, it sets the perfect scene for a Caribbean feast. All the Jamaican staples (curry goat, jerk chicken, ackee and saltfish) are offered, along with a few Bamboula specials. We tried the house lamb and the jerk lamb: both succulent chops, marinated in a spicy sauce (though the jerk lamb was much hotter) and served with a thick gravy, rice and peas, salad and freshly made coleslaw. The side dish of plantain seemed a little overripe, and the combined flavours were a bit too sweet (particularly after a slightly overpowering rum punch). Lovers of British bread and butter pudding should try the classic West Indian version served here. It's made with hard-dough bread, soaked in rum and served with rum and raisin ice-cream - and an excellent reminder of why, for hearty Caribbean food, Bamboula is hard to beat.

after few drinks in one of those great local pub down in Brixton, one jamaican guy told us to go to the Bamboula for a bite. we loved the atmosphere and the food was delicious ( Try the festival & the plantain). The staff was really friendly and helpful since we had no booking. it was like being at home somewhere in the west indies.
thanks.

Have been enjoying this lovely unpretentious 'laid back' restaurant for years. Always has a chilled out vibe, which seems to rub off on the customers in a good way!
For terrific Caribbean food this is the place - OK some dishes might be on the bone, but that's what we were given hands for - pick them up!
Took two lovely housemates Jenna & Frank last night after seeing the classic Quadrophenia at the Ritzy Cinema - first intro to Carib food and loved it!

Stopped in for a quick tea and cake, but was enticed by the Tropical Fruit Crumble on the menu so stayed a bit longer than planned. The food was good, as was the service.

It has gone down hill! Me and my family have been regular customers for years...recently they introduced a buffet service (12-3pm), theo fod was disgusting. Was not cooked authentically at all...slap dash...the chef cannot cook...the chicken seemed to be boiled and then tossed in jerk sauce...the manager or the supervisior was not helpful...more interested in accusing us of trying to eat and duck...after half a plate! Used to be good...not anymore.

A great little place for some genuine grub, right in the centre of Brixton. And they accept the local currency; Brixton Pounds, which was introduced in 2009 to support independent shops and businesses and keep money in the local economy
