'One neither desires coffee nor a coffeehouse. One desires to talk with others, coffee is merely an excuse.' So proclaims the Turkish proverb that adorns the wall of this homely café-cum-restaurant. With its unassuming bare wooden tables, local art and scattering of flyers, it's certainly a cosy place for a lazy chat. The meze are standard but good value, the muhamara (a spicy, nutty dip of finely chopped walnuts and green peppers with onion and cinnamon) being particularly tasty. Mains of coban kavurma (diced lamb and chicken stir-fried with peppers, onion, mushrooms and Turkish herbs), and mixed kebabs (chicken shish, lamb shish and meatballs with rice) got the job done, as did the easy-drinking house red.
