I thoroughly enjoyed my evening in the restaurant yesterday accompanied with my friend. The food is excellent and they deserve having more trade. I do hope they will stay for the long run and I'll definitely come back for more.

For fans of the spicy, earthy flavours of China’s Hunan province, there’s little not to like at Yipin. The overwhelmingly vast menu also offers dishes in the southern Cantonese style – sweet, subtle and more familiar in the West – but stick to the kitchen’s specialities, which hail from Hunan and the neighbouring Sichuan province, and feature bold, fiery food.
Highlights include pickled runner beans with minced pork (a wonderfully sour medley of vegetables and meat), mouth-watering Sichuan chicken (tiny morsels of on-the-bone fried chicken hidden in a mountain of dried chillies), and dry-wok beancurd, which consists of large pieces of tofu in a ginger and chilli-heavy sauce. Twice-cooked pork, a Sichuanese classic, is delicious here; the thin slices of belly pork are delectably fatty, salty and dry, rather than greasy.
While the peasant-style dishes are a little at odds with the hefty central Islington house prices, the humble double-fronted red and white dining room matches the food well, looking as if a trattoria once operated here. It suggests that the focus is on food, not aesthetics.

We went there on Mother’s day, this was the 3rd time we have visited - this time as a group rather than usual 2; as the portions are generous it's great for bigger parties. The food is fascinating and delicious. When you are warned by the picture menu the dish will be chille hot, it really will be. The squid and razor clam dishes blew our heads off although we loved them. We particularly enjoyed an aubergine dish with fish sauce and some scallops with broccoli. Service is good and the cost reasonable(the bill came to around £25 per heard with rice and a couple of beers each). The probably needs to be brought up to date but the food was fabulous, and that's the important. A real alternative to the chains of Upper St and the localized food in Chinatown.

Really delicious. Fantastic, flavourful food and friendly service. As a local I have watched restaurants come and go in these premises and I really hope this one remains a fixture, not least because it's the only decent Chinese (Hunanese) restaurant in the area!
Have tried Yipin many times now as I work close and it hasn't failed to impress. Chairman Mao's red-braised pork, frogs legs and steamed fish with chopped salted chill were superb as was the knowledge from the staff. I will be going back and I recommend you try it, you won't be sorry.
This place is fantastic, the menu was amazing and food was absolutely gorg!!!, it is so different to the mediocre Chinese restaurants we have been to. I went there with my husband to celebrate my little's boy birthday a few days ago, we all enjoyed and loved it, the portion was so big and we had to take some home! We particularly liked the dry wok squid and Chairman Mao's pork, it was so tasteful, and didn't miss out the spiced fungus as it was recommended by so many!! we eat out a lot and I think this is the best Chinese we have ever had in London, no doubt!!! The staff were very nice and friendly, very efficient. Definitely going back soon to go through the menus and recommend to people who want to try something different
I've eaten here only once, lured by a 20% discount offer. The food was fine (excellent sea bass), but a simple meal for three still cost £60. It's not a great location for a restaurant, as previous owners have discovered to their cost and this won't survive long without radical change.
Had a great time at this restaurant with my friends, the food was excellent with a really good range of dishes, particularly enjoyed the cold starters, the pork belly and the sea bass. The karaoke room proved to be a definite hit with everyone and rounded off the evening well. One suggestion would be for the play list to be improved and updated. Thoroughly enjoyed my evening and would highly recommend it as a good night out.
