Once spread over two floors, Gramex now occupies just the lower floor of 104 Lower Marsh (the ground level shop has recently become a branch of The Book Warehouse). But browsing here is still as comfy and laid back as flicking through a friend’s collection. The vast selection of quality used LPs and CDs – mostly classical with a small jazz section – is so constantly in flux that hundreds of records are cluttered around at any given time while they await sorting. This is done by affable owner Roger Hewland, whose alleged photographic memory is probably the only thing stopping the store sliding into chaos. There’s a 10 percent discount on purchases over £100, and (better still) free tea and coffee. Prepare to spend a good few hours digging.

A brilliant and unique experience. Make sure you have time on your hands, the shop is filled with goodies but they are stacked in no order so you must go digging. Great atmosphere and great value, a must if you like classical music

This isn't a review but an announcement that reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. We have moved to a new shop at 104 Lower Marsh SE1 7AB, almost across the road from our old shop. See details and a map on our website at Look forward to seeing you soon at the new shop. GRAMEX

While this store might be great for a general browse with nothing specific in mind, there is no point going there looking for a specific title. The shop might well stock it, but you will never find it there. There is no order, no catalogue and most importantly no desire from the shop owner (a sweet old man) to help you find what you are looking for. In his own words:"Have a look, if you don't find it, you will buy something else..." I am sorry for the negative review and I am sure the shop will meet the needs of some customers, but for me it was a big waste of time today :-(

A fantastic day out before returning to Kuwait!! Great chat and a wonferful place to learn about singers of a bye gone age, the history of recording and the correct playing speeds of the older records. Roger is a great host and a mine of information. Mike, Kuwait.
