There's nothing wrong with the service at this store, but Russell and Bromley are no longer the hallmark of quality they used to be. I just spent £650 on boots in the spring sale and was very reluctantly forced to take 2 pairs back after barely wearing them. I was offered a replacement for one pair in a different colour - at the pre-sale price of an extra £120. Be warned - the price of Russell and Bromley boots has literally doubled over the past few years but they obviously have a very, very second rate new supplier. If you're prepared to pay hundreds of pounds on a single pair of boots, you need to give Russell and Bromley a wide berth these days.

Although the smart but spare shop layout may not be much to write home about, at Russell & Bromley's stores the shoes speak for themselves. Simple, well-made and high quality: as well as beautiful flats for men and women there are extremely comfortable heels and classic leather bags. Our tip? Head to the High Street Kensington store on a quiet afternoon to browse in peace - or take advantage of their brilliant fitting service for children.
