Time Out says

Worry not - Selfridges’ major fashion project for autumn-winter isn’t a tribute to the PGA golf tournament. Instead, it’s a two-month celebration of the planet’s most successful, innovative and pioneering fashion designers. Twelve of style’s biggest names have been declared ‘master’ of their aesthetic: Dries Van Noten is Master of the Eclectic, Roberto Cavalli owns Elegance and Stella McCartney becomes queen of Modernity.

Not only will each Master have a dedicated Oxford Street window – all twelve have created an exclusive ‘masterpiece’ that encapsulates their signature style, from an Alaia python skirt to Oscar de la Renta’s cobalt ball gown. As a nod to the relationship between style and screen, the displays reference the film genres and narratives that have shaped each designer’s brand DNA.

Screenings of the Masters’ film selections will take place in the world’s first in-store cinema. You can probably guess some of the designers’ choices – Marc Jacobs goes for The Royal Tenenbaums, and Oscar de la Renta opts for ballgown-heavy Funny Face – while others are a little more esoteric. Who knew menswear designer Thom Browne was such a fan of Soviet propaganda film Battleship Potemkin?
